You know you're getting old where there isn't a difference in decades any more. the 00's to the Teens don't seem like anything but an artificial distinction to me. There was such a hard line (to me) between the 80's, 90's, and the 00's but between the 00's and the teens it strikes me as all the same ****.

When I was 17....it was a very good year...

Do you mean the 00's and the current decade? Because it's only 2011, man...give it some time...

Yeah, 2001 wasn't exactly a stark contrast to the late 90s. I'm not expecting the teens to have a clearly defined identity until we start getting close to the end of the decade, that's usually how it works.

that's not true. In terms of R&B, the late 90s was pretty decent then 2001 rolled around and it took a sharp nose dive.

R&B has been pretty much utter crap since the 70s ended.

no way....the 90s R&B was pretty awesome

What you are calling R&B from pre-70s was pretty much just Soul imo.

Like who? All the R&B I remember from the 90s was pretty awful, sort of like now.

And what you are calling R&B post-70s is pretty much elevator music imo.

Aaliyah, Jagged Edge, Boys2men, Mariah Carey, Blackstreet, Case, Joe, Ginuwine, Next, En Vogue, Brandy , Monica, Toni Braxton , Total, Prince even though he's more from the 80s he did have a song or two in the 90s. Bell Biv Devoe. I could keep going on but I think you get the point.

Those artists sound nothing like R&B today.

I didn't say they sounded the same, I said they were equally awful. And looking at that list definitely confirms that view.
