Also, from my experience, people my age think completely the other way around about music: it's all about today's music and not older music.

I wasn't really saying ALL mainstream music is terrible, that's why I said primarily. The mainstream appeals to the lowest common denominator, so of course quite a lot of it is bad.

Great thread!

Nothing touches the popular music of the 60's 70's 80's and 90's.

There is good modern music but it is definitly not playing on the radio. Nowadays, you have to search and dig for the real stuff.

Today's mainstream is in the toilet but thats because the music industry is very different from past era's.

What I'm disagreeing with you about is when you say "the majority of mainstream music is terrible."

I agree that there are some terrible musicians out there like Miley Cyrus, who I hate, but there's far more great mainstream bands like Arcade Fire, Justin Timberlake, Pharrrell Williams...it's just silly to say most mainstream music is awful based on someone like Miley Cyrus and the like.

I've yet to see you list a great mainstream band.

Lmao I'll disagree with every other one than Pharrell. Raphael Saadiq is pretty good.

Happy's a good song, but it's not really my thing and other tracks I've heard from him make it clear why that one's the single.

Music hasn't been the same since 1243.

Neither Timberlake nor Williams appeal to me, but then again I tend to prejudge music from whether it's mainstream or not.

Hey, you know what? Maybe I should put on some Justin Timberlake in the background right now, so that I can actually judge him...
