What a relief. We sure have come along way from those parents that keep their kids from listening and dancing the to the devils music.

Don't be so sure, we saw what (somehow) happened to Justin Timberlake.

This thread seems a fitting place to share the trailer for the upcoming film, The Art of Listening - A Film about Music's Journey from Artist to Audience

From PRNewsWire:

Quote:
The Art of Listening is a documentary about the journey that music takes to reach a listener's ear, from the intent of an instrument maker and composer, to the producers and engineers who capture and master the final work. The film is narrated by a wide variety of intimate conversations with the artists about the philosophy of their work, combined with a visual narrative of their process.
The film tackles the issue that music has become a passive, background activity, often experienced on cell phones with inexpensive earbuds and how that is a CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY.

Can we rally and raise our pitchforks about this as well?

They can still make their money by doing tours and it's not like everybody pirates music. Some buy their albums on iTunes or physical copies of their albums.

Piracy certainly takes a chunk of their profit but there's still plenty of money to be made by other means.

The music business will always adapt to modern times and musicians nowadays that want to be successful will adapt to how that music business works and as you said before,

Quote:
the counterargument to that is that music is so easy to make now that there should be more people making it than ever before and maybe that's right I don't really know
The very reason ppl are giving new comers a chance is because it's free. There's nothing to lose so you give the artist a shot.. and then you start liking him.. and then you buy a couple a songs on iTunes for a buck cause you figure "i like this guy and want to support him. i can spare a dollar on that".. and then you start to really like him and start going to his concerts.. next thing you know the guy is making a living as a musician.

There's plenty of stuff we can get for free but instead choose to pay for. And there's plenty of ppl that are willing to throw their money at anything. Look at kickstarter or the donations on twitch.
