Can't stand it every year. Wouldn't matter which time period I lived in.

Since I like a lot of songs that were very popular at some time in the late 60's, 70's, 80's and even to a limited degree the 90's, I can't really agree with that degree of top 40 pessimism, even though the majority of it will always have been crap. The current and the previous decade is unusual to me in that I can barely find 1 track I like in a whole year. The last top 40 hit where I admired the songwriting was probably that GOTYE song from a few years back.

Semi related: I was stunned to see how good taste average people seemed to have (so to speak - I'm not the arbiter of good taste) at this years Eurovision song contest . I thought the winner was far and away the best song in the whole mess of a show. Probably one of at best three I'd even consider above mediocre.

I feel like it's the Batlord´s responsibility to defend low brow music against snobbery in here, so I'll restrain myself.

He is after all the guy who once scoffed at me for being unable to just relax and enjoy Nickelback.

Nah, DJ is the man for the job, he's just not as loud as I am.

prior to the internet and online gaming and such if you were a young weirdo you were more likely to pick up an instrument and get out of your house as a way to socialize other young weirdos

so maybe a percentage of creative talent is just being absorbed into programming and **** instead

JUST A THEORY

there could also be no crossover between these groups and instead of video games they just playing D&D idk

Even out of context this brings a little bile into my throat.

I think, if we are bored of music, we should go to the nearest HMV or music store,, have a look at range of music out on shelves, have a look at takes your fancy, then go home and stream it and see what you think :D

If you like it, you love, if not, keep searching!

Btw, current favorites are Leprous, a prog band that literally defies any musical convention you've heard, and Little Mix, a UK girl group with music so infectious and well produced that you just can't help but dance.

That's what's working for me anyway :D Shame I can't post the links to youtube yet, but try Stuck by Leprous and Touch by Little Mix.

Where I live HMV packed it in a long time ago then one by one other store followed, even used records and CDs stores. So I am force to find music online. I am so use to finding music on my own I don't bother with recommendations from anyone anymore. Even if I am sorta interested in a rec from someone it goes to the back of the queue and I will eventually never get around to it.

I dont care what people think. Old music was best. And new bands that play in the style of old music is better than newer stuff. Even the music that I recently discovered that as made in the 00s is better what I've heard out today.

Your username reminds me I have a friend who has a Glam Rock band and his band is better than any band I know and the biggest contributing factor is that he is playing Glam which is music from the glorious days of yore. So yes music was better in the glorious days of yore.

This is a really interesting video on this topic. Apologies if it's already been posted. It's 20 minutes, but worth the time.
