I watched a couple minutes of the first video and sure enough it was about that study that says that modern pop music uses less whatever. Dear god, the laziest music snobs simply love that study cause they can use someone else's pie charts to co-opt their own opinions.

100% agreed. The best artists I've been exposed to over the last 10 years has been 100% via word of mouth on forums, YouTube vids, and the internet in general. I don't even listen to the radio or any mainstream stuff anymore.

That being said, I've heard a literall ton of complete and utter ****e in that same period of time.

When I was in HS maybe 1-2% of the students were rocking on instruments in bands.

These days I'd wager that 20% of kids are composing and recording because it's so easy and cheap to do now.

But as the saying goes: Sometimes less is more.

The downside of it all is that you are your own talent agency that has to sift through mounds of terrible demos in order to find the next big thing (to you).

Rap music was so much better back then. Now we have all these talentless mumble-rappers that people listen to.
not to mention that all of them have a similar appearance with face-tattoos and really bad hair.

You need to check out some modern underground hip hop, don't let the mainstream dictate your view of hip hop as a genre.

I agree in the glorious days music, was quite better because of the purity and authenticity but to be fair there are rappers now who still carry that torch but they don't gain as much exposure due to corporate labels dumbing down the audience. I think everyone was very much unique back in them day as well so that difference is definitely there for sure.
