Actually, Final Fantasy is the previous monkier of Arcade Fire violinist Owen Pallett, who released two albums under the name before switching to his real name due to copyright complications. Yes, it was a homage to the games, but no, other than that he's unaffiliated with them.

He has lots of excellent work. You should look into it.
