Top 5 interesting facts about Louis Armstrong:

1. Louis always referred to himself phoenetically as "Lewis", and not "Louie". "Louie" was the French pronounciation of his name and implicated him as being Cajun, which he wasn't. Despite the fact that most of the public referred to him as "Louie" Armstrong, he hated being called that.

2. Louis had a huge personality, but in real life only stood 5'6".

3. Louis' mother was a prostitute.

4. Louis was very well versed in classical music, and used to warm up for his performances by playing opera librettos.

5.When Louis was 11 he was arrested for brandishing a loaded pistol and sent to The Colored Waif Home for Boys, a juvenile detention facility, which is where he learned to play the coronet.

A Rick Wrightless Floyd just wouldn't be the same.

I'd go so far as to say that he was more essential to Floyd's sound than Waters was.

Maybe but I wouldn't say any of them aren't important to the band.

Though a Watersless Floyd (Division Bell) did turn out a lot better than a Wrightless Floyd (The Final Cut).

Agreed. He was basically the true creator of the Pink Floyd soundscape that everybody associates with them. Anybody could have written dismal lyrics about walls (seriously).

Oh c'mon, you can't write Waters off that easily. And The Wall isn't just about a wall, sheesh.

Granted he might not have made as many contributions to the sound as an instrumentalist he was still one of the primary songwriters and the leading guy behind the concept of a lot of Floyd albums. When Floyd were without someone to guide the way, the results were mixed (Ummagumma anyone?). Without Waters there would be no DSOTM, no Wish You Were Here and no Animals.

Well, The Wall is without a doubt my least favorite popular Floyd work. I don't even find it bad, it's passable and all. Its concept really does not nearly speak as deeply as Roger obviously would have liked to... Hence my comparison to it 'being about walls'. My friend who hails it as a favorite praises its musical diversity... I really don't think a mediocre stab at adding in occasional 'awkward' instrumentation brings anything new to the picture. Wish You Were, Animals, and Meddle were all much more consistent and brilliant... And all had a hell of a lot more Rick.

I don't like The Wall as much as those albums (except I'd take it over Animals) but I still love it, Wright does have a reduced role but he still makes his contributions, especially to the better songs on the album.

The Wall has a pretty universial theme to it, alienation, misanthropy. I can certainly relate to that. Musically I have every note and lyric fully memorizied, I've listened to it so many times.

I enjoyed the movie too, visually it fits with the music perfectly.
