My last.fm would give you a fair basis to assume.

Top 5 80s bands:

1. R.E.M.
2. Hüsker Dü
3. The Replacements
4. Sonic Youth
5. The dB's

downwardspiral 09-05-2010 08:05 AM

Sonic Youth I definitely agree with but Pixies, Dinosaur Jr, My Bloody Valentine and Nine Inch Nails would make up the other four for me.

I've only very briefly listened to Husker Du before, I've heard good things though so should probably give them another go.

Telephasic 09-05-2010 08:30 AM

The only thing that My Bloody Valentine released in the 80s I really liked was 'You Made Me Realise'. 'Isn't Anything' doesn't even come close to 'Loveless' in my opinion (which, by the way, is one of my all time favorites).

I enjoy Pixies too though, just not as much as other people I guess. I can't say they're overrated, but I don't like 'Surfer Rosa' and 'Doolittle' as much as other people.

I'd make a post about how there are no good pop punk bands but it's just tired at this point.

Yeah, only his best album so it's no biggie (I know my name is downwardspiral but prettyhatemachine doesn't sound as good as a username ;)). And so wut any way? It was still in the 80s and that's when NiN was formed, so your point is irrelevant.

OctaneHugo 09-06-2010 08:10 AM

Mannnn that isn't his best album but even if it is NIN isn't an 80's band.

It'd be like saying Steely Dan is an 80's band because they released Gaucho in 1980. Beatles ain't a 70's band.

downwardspiral 09-06-2010 09:16 AM

Well for me NiN were formed in the 80s and released a debut in the 80s, so I'm gonna pin them as being an 80s band for the time being. If for some reason I change my mind, you'll be the first to know.

At fist I thought his vocals were terrible and emo-ish. Now, he's appearing in my top 5.
I wish I could sing half as good as him :(

Nah dude, I disagree. Tom was a lot more dynamic and fun to listen to, as long as you liked his whiny voice. Mark is so monotone, but I guess it turns out he's the more consistent one.
