I f*cking hate Poison.

Though Bret Michaels is currently in the hospital after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage and I do hope he gets better, I wouldn't wish such a thing on somebody just because I don't like their music. :(

Talk Dirty To Me wasn't half bad for a 'fun rock track.' *clutches at straws* tbf to them, I never got why they are so hated? They weren't much different from most other hair metal bands that were about at that time..

Here's to hoping Brett Micahels gets better.

There is just no comparison. I think the only reason Nirvana and other grunge bands became popular is because teenage kids liked the depressing whiny no-talent music. It was just a stupid fad that kids liked back then, but unfortunately that stupid fad ended up ruining rock music.

As far as I know Rock music was never about being experts at your instruments. Sure it helps, but what really defines Rock music is its rebellion from social norms and expression of self, however visceral you might go about doing so. That is what the punk scene, the alternative rock scene and ultimately Nirvana were at. The point was not technicalities or having whatever standard you personally would deem 'professional', but just rocking out and making sure you're catchy enough for kids to enjoy while establishing an emotional connection to. And I will not even go into how ridiculous the notion that one band can 'ruin' an entire genre of music is, as I think boo boo has addressed that point quite well already.

They're one of the most popular hair metal bands so they're the biggest target for that reason.

I wouldn't say they're worse than Cinderella, Winger, Europe or Styper. Or Warrant.

And I certainly don't hate Poison as much as Motley Crue, what a bunch of chodes those guys are.

Still, I don't like to write off whole genres as bad and that includes glam metal. Dokken and Whitesnake has some guilty pleasures.

The Scorpions and Hanoi Rocks actually have some really awesome material but along with Van Halen they were more like predecessors to the movement and so it's unfair to put them in the same category as Motley Crue.

I don't consider GnR hair metal at all, even if they have obvious similarities with the genre.

Bits of hair metal is acceptable, Poison were bigger than Motley Crue? Really? I can't say I like either. I write off whole genres, Hip-Hop and Prog Rock will sadly never appeal to me.

I'd agree with that Van Halen were pioneers of the genre/movement but were good as musicians that they could break away from it and they just provided good fun rock and roll. IMO, GNR Appetite For Destruction holds up to this day as a great record.. even though it's not something I listen to much.

Yeah, what Van Halen did at the time was very fresh and new and I don't hold it against them just because a bunch of crappy bands ripped them off.

And Appetite for Destruction is still one of my favorite "rock n roll" records, I've gotten kinda burned out on Sweed Child O'Mine and Paradise City but I never get tired of Welcome to the Jungle and the rest of the album is great too, gotta love Rocket Queen.

I also like the Use Your Illusion albums a lot despite their faults and rancid crap like Garden of Eden and My World.

You Could be Mine has the most badass drum and guitar intro EVER.

Eddie VH as a guitarist is up there with the best, even though the music with his band isn't up there with the best. I have great admiration for Eddie.

Sweet Child O' Mine was one of the first rock tracks I got into. Where I grew up, to like rock music you were a 'mosher' and 'uncool' but listening to the same mind numbing crap everyone else listened to on Radio 1 was acceptable. But that was one song that really drew me into proper 80s rock n roll. I'm not really bored of any particular song by them, I could get it off the shelf and give it a listen and enjoy it from track to track. I however couldn't do that with the Appetite For Destructions. I found them to be, for the most part weak albums.

All I know is I'll take All Those Wasted Years & Too Fast For Love over any 90s Alt rock shite.

Do you mean the Use Your Illusions? ;)

I was raised by my grandmother and as a kid was only familiar with the kinda music she liked. Country music, R&B, 50s Rock N' Roll and Pop music and Creedence Clearwater Revival and that was about it.

Then around the time I was like 12 or what not, I got into bands like Van Halen, Queen, Metallica, AC/DC but the big one was Guns N Roses.

While my music taste has evolved quite a lot since them, I still enjoy listening to those bands in particular and have much appreciation for them breaking my country bubble and getting me into rock music.

Anything is preferable to an Alice In Chains album
