Maybe some of us don't have Ipod's because they are an easy choice, have terrible headphones and an interface that is not conducive to a serious music fan (it's AAC or nothing according to them).
BTW I only have 4 out of the 100 listed on my player so I am very happy to join the crap brigade. |
I like some of the oddball choices... but most are pretty obvious. I am curious though... of the entire Beatles catalog why did you choose I Feel Fine? It's an alright song but I'd immediately think of something from their later worker in it's stead. Just seems their later work has aged much better then that song in particular.
iPods are crrap in general, imho ;) |
I literally have none of those. Nor do I recognise any of them at all.
|
I have an astounding zero of those, not that any of them are bad, just not anything I have an interest in.
Wait I lied, I have two |

2) You're wrong, iPods support different media. It's the iTunes program that isn't WMA compatible and that's only because Microsoft won't license it to them. My MediaMonkey player enables me to synchronize with the iPod's operating system fairly efficiently (nor have I had a single problem with it). 3) If you use a third-party OS (like RockBox) you can listen to lossless formats like FLAC on your iPod without much hassle. Something that many other MP3 players' operating systems aren't capable of. And jackhammer, threads like these are the reason I love this forum so much. It's cheeky and a little snide but I love the title and don't see much reason for offense when the OP just made a fantastic contribution to the forum. |
I still think an old Zune is money better spent :D
EDIT: Actually I can't really speak for any thing. I don't have an mp3 player, I've only seen a few of them in action. I do plan on getting one eventually when I get the scratch... I tried to buy a CD the other day from a rasta stand and I actually bartered with the guy over 5 dollars. ... it was depressing. |

Posting a generic list of the songs we HAVE to have is the sort of topic that you love to rip apart. Just because I don't have those tracks on my MP3 doesn't mean I'm crap and I can argue that a boring cliched list of songs is the reason why I DON'T own a generic piece of hardware and gladly listen to my own collection of tunes that are every bit as good as those tunes even if people don't have the individualism to search for them instead of conforming to conformist cliches. |

The iPod, on the other hand, is a miracle of industrial design and is so laboriously intuitive that it's almost idiotic to try and write it off as a "conformist cliche". And this is coming from a guy who hates Apple (Macs are shit too, by the way). Why try to derail a thread that's clearly productive? We all know you don't listen to sacred cows (apparently something you pride yourself on), what reason would you have to get offended by someone offering their own hundred-song list? How is this any worse than the hundred-albums list that people spread around? In the immortal words of the OP: Quote:

I ****ing, ****ing, ****ing, ****ing HATE Sugar Mountain.
|
I'd be lucky to have 3 of these songs on my player...
|
The topic in hand is tracks we should have on 'our IPOD' and not our PC based media player ( which should play every file known to man if we play that way).
What you are saying is that I should have those files on my player and if I dare to counteract it I am out of order? I like to move with the times and think progressively. Just because I don't agree with a personal list doesn't mean I am rocking the boat. I do apologise for listening to music that doesn't fit into the cliche that my age suggests. When I suggest songs and albums that people half my age haven't even heard of, then I think I should at least be given a little respect for suggesting my choices or should I just conform to please everyone? |
I don't think the OP is meant to put anybody down. I just think it's a thinly veiled list of his favorite music. Nothing wrong with that - but a thread may be over the top.
|
While I've heard over 80 of those, these are the only ones I have:

Unless I'm deeply mistaken, this thread is just a list of songs this guy likes. You can continue playing this role if you want, it's not winning you anything. Just to clarify I have ZERO of those songs on my iPod. |
The only one that is even in my library is The Clash song. But it's not on my iPod because I only put new music I'm checking out on my iPod since it's an old Nano with only 4 GB...

Also I find it funny that that seems small. I remember when computers got a gig or memory. |

You have made threads about Metacritic E.G and their deplorable tastes and yet I have questioned a list and I'm wrong? It's double standards and because I have dared to question a list that you have found acceptable then I am wrong for doing so... The bottom line is that I don't like the list and you are telling me I am wrong to say that I don't like it. Your double standards are beyond belief Sam. That list is a good list but generic beyond belief and if I posted a similar 100 songs you have to have on your Ipod , then I would get stick and deservedly so. **** it. I will stay with listening to what I like and do not need any vindication for it. **** this forum. |

I could rename this thread to the slightly more PC "100 Songs I'd Like You to Have on your iPod or your iPod is Conceivably Deficient". Or perhaps "The MB Unleash Your Anger and Spew Forth Vitriol Thread"? Either way I'm focusing on the positives. This thread has reminded me to get some Robert Johnson and Kris Kristofferson. |
That's an interesting list Jedey, you don't happen to be in your 50s or 60s do you?
Don't mean to be a doosh I'm just curious. |

So I was off by one year, not bad.

Sorry the thread title caused so much controversy, I didn't mean to offend anyone I was just trying to make an eye catching title. You must admit it's hard to take it seriously when you spell crap with three r's. Also I wasn't expecting people to get into it over iPods, I was just too lazy to write generic MP3 portable mass storage listening device.
I was hoping people would talk about the music and/or artists, maybe even submit their own lists that in their opinion are great. Once again my intention was a little light hearted fun and I apologize for hurt feelings. Thanks, John |

The brand name iPod is used in the same way that Kleenex, Xerox, Q-Tip and Jeep are.
And as lucifer_sam already mentioned, they are not limited to playing ACC files. I use iTunes (for organizing and playing, not for purchasing) and an iPod, with a PC. And I never touch AAC files. Regarding the list, I only have a handful of those and they're certainly not things that would stay on the iPod in heavy rotation. They'll get thrown on occasionally but that's it. Seems to be a list of "classic well-known staples" which is fine, just not for me as my tastes constantly evolve and I'm constantly on the hunt for new stuff. Plus my iPod is only 8GB with files at minimum 192kbps so things are always getting rotated on and off. :D As far as I'm concerned nothing stays on my iPod permanently, a few months maybe as I get familiar with something. If I had a 100GB+ brick I suppose some things would stay on. I kind of like having a smaller one though as it stays lean to focus on the stuff I'm currently exploring. |

I love that Jane's tune! It's awesome. Maybe I'll change it to Obvious, but maybe not.

With or without that music though my iPod is crap. Not the music, the device. Apple is sh*t. |
Ohh, I only have the Sam and Dave song, but I've yet to listen to it.
It's not really a list I would be interested in, though. What made you decide to make this list? |
