Mission of Burma - No. I've never even seen them mentioned on MB until nominated.

Ludwig Van Beethoven - No, because although he is a highly regarded classical musician I've never really heard anyone on MB mention him until now and this IS the MB Hall of Fame. I never really got into Beethoven as much as I did with other classical artists either.[2]

The Residents boring!!!!!! You kidding me?

The Residents- The biggest YES vote here! Absolutely stunning, daring, innovative music.

Iron Maiden- No goddammit, I hate them, I hate what they've inspired, just utter ****e to me.

Jimi Hendrix- Uh, YEAH... Really don't need to say much.

Creedence Clearwater Revival- No, I don't find anything that interesting about their sound. Say what you want about Fogerty, but I don't like his music so he doesn't get my vote.

Mission of Burma- Abstain. I've never heard them, but their name alone is intriguing.

Ludwig Van Beethoven- I'ma say yes, simply due to overall influence. I wish I listened to classical, but nevertheless, this guy deserves a spot in the HoF.

The Residents - Abstain! What I have heard has really pointed out that they are special, but my lack of experience is holding me back.

Iron Maiden - Yes. Tentatively. Damn good band but are they REALLY that great?

Jimi Hendrix - Yes. Beautiful and ephemeral one second, hip thrustingly sexy at the next. Gotta love him.

Creedence Clearwater Revivial - I don't get why people on hating on these guys, great music, really solid classic rock. a good yes from me :]

Mission of Burma - Who?

Ludwig Van Beethoven - The master. yes.

So it's better to be the actual Rolling Stone (CCR, Iron Maiden, Hendrix) and go for the painfully obvious than to appreciate The Residents in the context of this thread and their influence on non-mainstream music? How disappointing: this just goes to show how rampant both ignorance (They're not Indie or Post-punk related? Must not be important) and laziness (3 seconds on one or two YT vids shouldn't be a deciding factor for a band with 100+ albums) are amidst a supposedly mature and open-minded bunch of people.

Thank you for for this, Anteater. I can always rely on you to defend artists like this.

I'm curious, how do the Residents relate to Rolling Stone? Sorry for my ignorance...

no. more like when i look back at my own personal tastes the handful of Residents tracks that i've heard and liked don't outweigh the ones i've heard and said 'meh' about. Baja? and The Car Thief are 2 of the most played mp3s on my system, but that doesn't change the fact that they're part of a minority to 'my' tastes in regards to the group. so why should I vote yes?

if anything it seems there are too many people trying to prove some higher level of musicality by providing what is commonly seen as the 'right' answer in regards to what makes a grand connaisseur de musique. people answer like there's going to be a test on this later. THAT is where the comparison to Rolling Stone comes in, by forcing the expected - hey look! we're the internet! we're SUPPOSED to be high minded and celebrating nothing but the obscure and unsung from the mainstream....
