any song that doesn't have any belting into it, it relaxes me. though i do am a big fan of diva-fied voices, but when it comes to relaxation, i prefer the likes of Sade, Corrin Bailey Rae, Alanis Moresette & Nora Jones. So Christina Aguilera's screaming is comepletely out of the list when I wanna relax.

I can really relax to anything like pg.lost, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Ros, or anything in the post-rock genre.

Surprisingly, I have also been known to get fairly relaxed with the Melodic Death Metal, such as Mistweaver, Burden Of Life, Aeveron and Barren Earth. Not too sure why though, the growls are just very easy to listen to for me.

I usually switch on BBC Radio Three and listen to some classical music!

It depends what mood I'm in to start off. If I'm already quite calm, then something like Sufjan Stevens, Autolux or Tom Waits (Small Change) will keep me that way. If I'm angry, Metal or Heavy Rock is far better at calming me down, as it's an outlet of emotion.

Any kind of folk. Banjos are good but not crazy banjos. I like The be Good Tanyas, Po Girl or Sufjan.

I find Mumford and Sons pretty relaxing...

Well, this may elicit more than a few chuckles - but, anyway.....

Al Green, Willie Nelson, Steely Dan, Spanky and Our Gang, The Mamas and The Papas, Roberta Flack, Sade, Poco, Pink Floyd, Ozark Mountain Daredevils

I like a lot of different types of music. I'm from the South, but I don't care too much for most country, except for SOME of it from early 90s on back. Not that crazy about Southern rock, either.

I'm 58 years old. I looked over a cross-section of the earlier posts. Most of the artists that are mentioned are new to me. My taste in music is hopelessly dated, I guess. But, I love it - if I have a hobby, this is it. My kids are 22 & 18, and I'd like to think I had something to do with their love of it. Occasionally, they will introduce me to something I like. I sort of like some of the Radiohead and Mark Sandman tunes.

Ha Ha - I feel sort of like a lecher. But, I'm looking forward to reading, learning and getting to know a few posters here.
