Young Marble Giants.
Lovely female vocals, smooth and catchy basslines and not much else. Perfect relaxant! |
Anything that I enjoy relaxes me the most. Stuff that should be relaxing, like Ambient style music or Classical I find really boring at the best of times, and if I was raging about something they'd only get me more annoyed and on edge. If I dont like listening to it I'd never find it relaxing, no matter how soothing it should be

Trance. It could send me to sleep. Combined with soft lyrics = <3

ladysmith black mambazo
if i am reaaaaaalllllllyyyyyyyyyy sleep-deprived, I put on some Kenny G |
I've downloaded a bit of Chinese and Korean traditional music lately which I've been relaxing to during these stressful last few weeks. It's not music I've ever really listened before but I'm enjoying it.
Drone, classical, noise, and oriental/meditation music.
One suggestion: Jean Michel Jarre's Waiting for Cousteau. The fourth track from the album with the same name (1990). 47 minutes of relaxing music.
When I'm trying to be in a peaceful mood, I try to listen to light classical music or smooth jazz. I like to listen to anything without lyrics to help me use imagery when I go to sleep.
Brian Eno: Thursday afternoon
Miles Davis: Bitches Brew, Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain Joni Mitchell: Hejira Bill Laswell & Jah Wobble: Radioaxiom: A dub Transmission And one amazing song, very peaceful: Efterklang: tortuous tracks |
Norah Jones can be quite relaxing. Chopin has some very soothing melodies.
I find that indie folk music is very relaxing. As well as artist such as We Are The City, Jason Collett and Coldplay and Switchfoot
Acoustic... try the following:
1) Amos Lee 2) Joseph Arthur 3) Bret Dennen 4) Kevin Devine 5) Adam Stephens |
Relaxing Music
Alot of piano players on the smooth side relaxes me. Phil Casagrande , David Benoit does it for me
I've always found simon and Garfunkel very soothing. I love to watch the live in central park concert when I'm going to bed.
melodic death metal takes off a lot of the bite of stress on the weekends and I sleep a lot better on Sundays

Sleeping/resting to Eluvium, Hammock, Tim Hecker, Rosetta (Galilean Satellites mostly), or something like these is the greatest feeling in the world.

i also listen to The Script and BoyceAvenue if I want to relax because... well, it's a decent take at pop |
If I'm in need of some relaxation, I usually throw on some Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes, Embrace, or Placebo.
Any new age music, specifically Chinese new age.
Ahhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmnice. |
late-era Cocteau Twins
any song that doesn't have any belting into it, it relaxes me. though i do am a big fan of diva-fied voices, but when it comes to relaxation, i prefer the likes of Sade, Corrin Bailey Rae, Alanis Moresette & Nora Jones. So Christina Aguilera's screaming is comepletely out of the list when I wanna relax.
I can really relax to anything like pg.lost, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Ros, or anything in the post-rock genre.
Surprisingly, I have also been known to get fairly relaxed with the Melodic Death Metal, such as Mistweaver, Burden Of Life, Aeveron and Barren Earth. Not too sure why though, the growls are just very easy to listen to for me. |
Anything by Wilco.
I usually switch on BBC Radio Three and listen to some classical music!
It depends what mood I'm in to start off. If I'm already quite calm, then something like Sufjan Stevens, Autolux or Tom Waits (Small Change) will keep me that way. If I'm angry, Metal or Heavy Rock is far better at calming me down, as it's an outlet of emotion.
Any kind of folk. Banjos are good but not crazy banjos. I like The be Good Tanyas, Po Girl or Sufjan.
I find Mumford and Sons pretty relaxing...
Well, this may elicit more than a few chuckles - but, anyway.....
Al Green, Willie Nelson, Steely Dan, Spanky and Our Gang, The Mamas and The Papas, Roberta Flack, Sade, Poco, Pink Floyd, Ozark Mountain Daredevils I like a lot of different types of music. I'm from the South, but I don't care too much for most country, except for SOME of it from early 90s on back. Not that crazy about Southern rock, either. I'm 58 years old. I looked over a cross-section of the earlier posts. Most of the artists that are mentioned are new to me. My taste in music is hopelessly dated, I guess. But, I love it - if I have a hobby, this is it. My kids are 22 & 18, and I'd like to think I had something to do with their love of it. Occasionally, they will introduce me to something I like. I sort of like some of the Radiohead and Mark Sandman tunes. Ha Ha - I feel sort of like a lecher. But, I'm looking forward to reading, learning and getting to know a few posters here. |
stoner rock/metal at the moment - Queens of the Stone Age, Cathedral
Also the first two Zero 7 albums are good chill-out music.
Ray Lamontagne... He has one of the best and most relaxing voice I ever heard! Can't wait to go see him this summer! :)
I know I sound like a broken record with my love for this album, but Boards of Canada's album the Campfire Headphase is the single most relaxing album of all time. I've had several near freakouts but I'm fine after a few songs on that sucker. There is something about that album that completely levels me out.

The Sight Below

I find i'm most relaxed when listening to artists like Noah Gundersen (formerly known as Noah Gundersen & The Courage) - his voice is absolutely incredible. You must listen to his song "Middle of June".. his voice makes my skin crawl.
Also, James Morrison, David Gray and The Cat Empire pretty much rock my world. |
