DistantOblivion likes Dream Theater, so...

I refuse to like any generic Prog Metal band that comes out of the woodwork and tries to pass off their lack of ingenuity and creativity with pretentious solos and "technical" ability.

These guys make me hate prog music even more, even when I know there has to be some good stuff out there... they've turned me off of ****ty wank-filled solos forever...

Deicide

I don't care if they have two of the best selling death metal records of all time, I can't stand that ass cunt Glen Benton. His ideas on religion are juvenile (even for a death metal artist), his treatment of both animals and women is appalling, and his attempts to come across as an intellectual are laughable to say the very least. Not only that but I've never found their music to be anything special, like a bland mixture of various Death Metal artists from the Florida scene. It really irks me that he is seen in the same slight as Death Metal greats like Chuck Schuldiner who had more talent in his little toe than Benton has in his entire body.

Aside from their iconic hit tunes, I find it pretty laughable when people are die hard fans of bands like AC/DC, Kiss, Motley Crue, Guns 'N' Roses and The Scorpions. I mean... have you heard these albums?

I refuse to like whiny emotional soft rock, who's marketing seems mostly directed to young girls, but pretends as though it's deep songwriting. All those bands created by Blink-182 members like +44, Angels and Airwaves, Boxcar Racer, for example. City and Colour, The Plain White T's, Dashboard Confessional.

I refuse to like Modern Radio Country as well. Perhaps this goes without saying, but my hatred is particularly seething. Lets set the record straight, The Rascall Flatts does not a country artist make--They're a pop act. Darius Rucker, does not Charlie Pride make, just because he's black. Fans of pseudo-country music are idiots, through and through.

Why lump AC/DC with all that crap? I don't think they're like any of the others at all...

agreed...i had an ac/dc phase. their stuff gets a little tired after a while, but they did one thing well and they stuck to it. and guns n' roses isn't that bad, either. i don't listen to them anymore, really, but i did at some point and appetite for destruction still holds up. that album was also very refreshing when you think about the era it came out in...hair metal sound familiar?

if you are wondering...no i haven't listened to chinese democracy and i doubt i ever will.

I've never really liked Guns and Roses before, but they do have some good songs here and there. I agree with AC/DC getting a little tired. Whenever a band finds what it's comfortable with doing it's okay to perfect it but after a while you long for something new and refreshing. But yeah they aren't anything like those other bands there.

I like AC/DC best out of the aforementioned bands, but I think the running theme with all of them is that they stuck to one thing and did it over and over until the world stopped caring. And considering how silly the subject matter of the songs were, I find it funny that bands like Guns 'N' Roses took themselves so seriously (remember their music videos?!). I grew up in a white trash neighborhood where these bands were playing non-stop, and the atmosphere was pretty farcical, like something out of Spinal Tap. Imagine tons of mullet-prone 30-something single males with a beat up trucks and a beer guts listening to music about drugs and hot chicks and perhaps you'll see why I can't take it seriously.
