Song Wars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two songs battle it out in this spinoff of everybody's favorite thread, "Album Wars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"!
There are only two rules: 1) Each battle must include songs by different artists. 2) Listen to both songs before voting. Don't judge the song by the band name or genre, just listen to it and pick the one you like better! PM me your nominations. The first matchup: Battle 90s Indie: 'Dukes Up' by Modest Mouse - Sad Sappy Sucker (1994/2001) vs. 'Utilitarian' by Spoon - A Series of Sneaks (1998) |
Modest Mouse 0
Spoon 1 |
so that's what Spoon sounds like
Modest Mouse - 0 Spoon - 2 |
this looks like fun.
|
Hm...
Modest Mouse: 1 Spoon: 2 Never really been the biggest Spoon fan. |
I don't care for MM's singer, but even less so on their early work
Spoon: 3 MM: 1 |
i love modest mouse and hate sad sappy sucker.

I actually don't like either of these songs. |
I'm a bigger fan of MM than I am of Spoon, though both have some great material. Neither of these songs is great, but I'll vote for Spoon on this one.

Meh...I guess Modest Mouse song was more interesting
Modest Mouse 2 Spoon 4 |
Modest Mouse 3
Spoon 4 Spoon is really hit or miss with me. |
Spoon's song is less annoying than Modest Mouse! Onward!
(I would have voted for Modest Mouse, but I don't want it to be a tie and I'm ready to post a new battle) This one is our first nomination. Battle Boise Indie: 'The Plan' by Built to Spill - Keep It Like a Secret (1999) vs. 'Wizard of Upper Snake River' by Caustic Resin - Keep on Truckin' (2003) |
Built to Spill is my favorite band ever but I'll probably be checking out some more Caustic Resin pretty soon.
Built to Spill 1 Caustic Resin 0 |
Built To Spill 2
Caustic Resin 0 |
Built To Spill 3
Caustic Resin 0 |
Well, I had never heard Caustic Resin but that song was really good so I'll give it a vote.
Built to Spill 3 Caustic Resin 1 |
i love both these bands and songs....but i think this is one a few examples of just how good Caustic Resin was.....Built To Spill is a great band and there are several example of that....but every time i here that Caustic resin song....i feel like it's Built To Spill's older Schopenhauer loving brother
Built To Spill - 3 Caustic Resin - 2 |
Built To Spill - 4
Caustic Resin - 2 |
Built To Spill - 5
Caustic Resin - 2 I'd never heard either band prior, and given BtS's fan's, I never expected to like them, but that song wasn't nearly as ****ty as I thought it would be. CR sounds a little to grunge for my liking. And the singer sounds like the guy from Soul Asylum. |

The Caustic Resin song is pretty good but I'm a Built to Spill fanboy and I like The Plan. Would have preferred a studio version though. Built To Spill - 6 Caustic Resin - 2 |
'The Plan' by Built to Spill brings me back to some good times.
Built To Spill - 7 Caustic Resin - 2 |
Built to Spill takes it easily. Not surprisingly, since it was matched up against a relatively unknown, and Keep It Like a Secret is the shit.
Get me your nominations, folks, or you'll have to listen to more OK Go songs, and I know nobody wants to do that. Battle 00s Mainstream "Indie" : 'Jenny Was a Friend of Mine' by The Killers - Hot Fuss (2004) vs. 'WTF' by OK Go - Of the Blue Colour of the Sky (2009) |
The Killers 1
OK Go 0 One of the best Killers songs, I don't think much of OK Go. |
I fucking hate the killers. Damn you for making me listen to that ear-damaging song. I don't listen to OK Go either, simply because I don't know anything about them. But I found the song enjoyable. They also did that song that had treadmills in the video, right? Much different sound if so, and that wasn't a bad song either.
The Killers - 1 OK Go - 1 |
Yeah, that was them. This song has a really cool music video too, but for some reason there are just as many people who hate OK Go's videos as there are that enjoy them. It doesn't make sense.
James: did you actually listen to both songs? I'm not calling you out, just curious, because you would have had to have perfect timing to post eight minutes after me and listen to 7:30 worth of music... |

OK Go can be pretty enjoyable when you're in the right mood. A couple of years ago I loved them.

I vote Killers, dunno what that makes the score.
2-2? |
3-1, I think?
|
having never really heard either of these bands....except if i remember right the killers had a bit of a hit a few years back....i enjoyed the OK Go song more
Killers - 2 OK Go - 2 |

This is a tough decision. Had you asked me which band I like more before "Day and Age", I would have said the Killers. Unfortunately, that album and the song "Human" ruined the band for me. OK Go - 3 Killers - 2 |
I listened to the new OKGo song fully intent on voting for it.
OK Go - 3 Killers - 3 What a piece of ****. |
these matchups have been shit.

Maybe it's a time for a new battle and call them equally shitty. |
