If you post it, I will listen

I really know next to nothing about music. I want to learn, and I thought a really interesting way to begin would be to expose myself to as many different sounds as there are varied tastes in the world.

So, if you're willing to help me in my path to musical enlightenment, all I ask is that you post the name of a song (or piece, I suppose) that you really like, and I promise to listen to it from start to finish. Any genre, any artist. If possible I would appreciate a link to the song you post, but if you don't want to or can't find one readily I will do my best to find the song myself.

Thank you.

'Get Up and Jump' by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The second song they ever wrote.

Perfectly sums my taste in music, and hopefully gives you a another unique perspective...

I love how 4'33" is like some musical in-joke here, yet if you asked some random person if they've heard of 4'33" they'd think it's the time the next bus arrives.

anyways, here you go.

Telephasic 08-13-2010 06:55 AM

These are pretty diverse I think.

i don't think i quite understand how to make videos appear! eff.

Zaqarbal 08-13-2010 05:04 PM

Regarding classical guitar, I've thought it would be a good idea to listen to the best composer ever, played by the best living performer:

Australian classical guitarist John Williams plays The Cathedral and The Last Chant, composed by Paraguayan Agustín Barrios (MB thread):

^@ zevokes You just put a code after = in youtube tags and not the whole url

P A N 08-13-2010 05:13 PM

thanks dan!

Zaqarbal 08-13-2010 05:28 PM

And even simpler: only the codes (without the final &).

I just thought he was joking myself, though I could be wrong. He could be disgusting.

Freebase Dali 08-14-2010 02:46 AM

I was hoping for an option C. :(

rammetal7 08-14-2010 03:03 AM

I don't see why "Bleed It Out" is made fun of alot here but then again why should I care? I like the song.

Sljslj 08-14-2010 03:34 AM

You want you mind blown? Of course you do.

Mind officially blown.

The Abominable Homan 08-14-2010 09:26 AM

Sljslj 08-14-2010 02:42 PM

For some reason, the videos (3 that I posted, 1 from Homan) on this page don't show up for me. Do they show up for anyone else? 'Cause I'd hate for the OP not to be able to view them.

Dr.Seussicide 08-14-2010 02:47 PM

You do this with the youtube link:

That bolded in the middle is everything after the "=" sign in the link.

Awesome.

Sljslj, that song you shared "Christeen" is pretty cool. It's like Billy Idol's "Shock to the System" except more melodic.

Anyways,

(I'm not a fan of the anime aesthetic of that video but the other copy of the song on youtube has bad audio quality)
