I put Jethro Tull on there because I figured they were a big inspiration to all the **** prog of the early 70's

VU are on there because they have become the ultimate namedrop for indie bands. VU are one of my favorite bands, but they inspired a lot of good AND bad

Well I disagree, when you look back at what they influenced in general, it's more good than bad.

I could create a compilation series with all the terrible covers of Venus In Furs I've heard over the years.

Other- Michael Jackson

He was an awesome pop singer, but think of all the bad bubblegum pop he inspired.

I can`t think of any s*** prog bands inspired by Jethro Tull!!! Tell me who you had in mind?

Prog is something you either like or you don`t like, because the technical prowess of the musicians and the sounds they create, could hardly be called crap.

I'd agree on Van Halen. Seemed the point of 90% of all 80s mainstream rock was to be Van Halen. Can't be said about any other decade, to my recollection.

Op Ivy should be one. So much **** Ska-Punk boils down to them. Blink 182 influenced some pretty bad Pop Punk.

If you're going to blame a band for pop punk at least have the balls to mention The Buzzcocks.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-21-2010 11:46 AM

I don't think you can blame the Buzzcocks.

I can't recall any really bad punk pop until The Descendents came along.

I blame them

Operation Ivy should not be one, at all. The ska influence was there way before them
