What does "bouncy" mean? At least 311 can play their instruments and every song doesn't sound exactly the same, even if their vocals suck...

Bouncy means lively and exuberant with crisp, clean metronomic beats. Those bands are so happy to be rocking funk in the free world .. that's how they make me feel anyway. I just don't like that feeling.

I don't hate you just because you like 311. That's something that MB has taught me to not do

then it's pretty clear you've never really listened to either band and are just doing the equivalent of talking to hear the sound of your own voice.

311 were actual innovators. the whole raggae / metal thing was actually 'new' when they started out and not really replicated since. they have a very clear and defined message of positivity and metaphysical growth, which IS cheesy as hell, but still clear and relatively unique.

LP played watered down nu-metal. like Limp Bizkit for the kids who's parents didn't allow them to get a copy of 'significant other' because 'nookie' was a dirty song. their music is generic, their message cliche beyond words -
'WAHHH i'm not being treated as special as i think i am!!!'

Actually no, I try not to bull$hit around too much precisely because I don't like to listen to the sound of my own voice (or the equivalent).

You are half right though. I have only heard a few scattered Linkin Park songs over the years - including recent ones. This has been plenty to let me know that I hate their sound a lot.

But I have listened to 311 quite a bit as they were pretty much inescapable by the time their s/t came out. I was living in a college atmosphere and that album was played seemingly nonstop in some places. I never liked it at all. Or any songs from any other albums I've heard. I'll grant you that I have never forced myself to listen to any of their albums on my own, by myself. Too bouncy to listen to even if they had a good message. Of course their songs are catchy as hell but still I've always found them irritating at best.

I used to be a big 311 fan. Discovered them when the self-titled came out (album cover caught my attention at the store), but had never heard of them prior. Picked up the first two albums soon after and got several of my friends into them, used to play them in my car all the time and had many people ask me what it was. By the time Transistor came out they had definitely hit the mainstream and became kind of a jock band, so I shunned the album prior to even hearing it. A year or so later I gave it a shot, because I did like the song "Beautiful Disaster" quite a bit, and turns out I like the album. After that I stopped listening to them though, their softer route didn't appeal to me at all. Anything I've heard since is just not my thing. But I still like their first 4 albums, I might play one once a year.

Music Banter Taught Me How To Read And Write

Musicbanter taught me quite a lot about music and introduced me to tons of bands. And mediafire, which is easily one of the best things the internet has to offer. I also never belonged to a forum before coming here so I've learned how to post and all that good ****.

I feel like I probably come off as one of those hipster people everyone was talking about, which is partly true. I won't try to listen to every album that seems popular, but I do end up picking up a lot of them I guess. That said, I hope you don't think of me as a mindless drone because I think I've certainly learned a lot about my musical tastes thanks to everyone here.

Oh, and I learned that I pretty much really suck at committing to anything over the internet and actually following through with it. Sorry.

Still need to work on your capitalization and your period placement bud.

Musicbanter has already helped introduce me to loads of new, awesome music. It has also taught me that there do exist people out there who are just as into music as I am, and it's taught me that internet forums can be full of predominately awesome people.
