That said, Icky Thump was more experimental than their others

I haven't seen anyone in this thread saying they go into White Stripes albums expecting something new and exotic, have you?

It's not just about expectations. As a band, I find them boring because they simply fail to innovate in any way whatsoever. So they have a good guitarist - I can get you at least a couple of dozen better ones off the top of my head.

In the end, they just fail to introduce anything new, both to themselves and the whole music industry. Doesn't make them a BAD band or anything, and they sound decent enough. I just don't see myself buying two White Stripes records - that's kinda redundant.

Considering everyone's complaining about how they fail to innovate, I think it's a relevant enough thing to say. They are what they are.

I haven't seen anyone complaining that they fail to innovate either.

Love them both. First one is understandable I suppose, but The Smiths?

I've heard people say they're whiny and mopey and whatever, which is a stretch already, but boring? Christ, Arbuckle.

Who gives a hoot if they are excellent song-writers?

That's a completely acceptable reason too I think. I don't really have any clear recollections of sections of songs from any of the Godspeed You! Black Emperor songs I've heard. Granted I can see how the band can appeal to so many people and earn the praise that it gets, but it just doesn't deliver on the sound that I want in my rock music. But for mellow easy going and embracing music, the popular post-rock bands are certainly the way to go. That's not to say that every post-rock band I've heard is boring though, there's a really good Norwegian band called The Low Frequency in Stereo that will provide all the rif***e you could want from a post-rock band.

This could be said about any other genre too. There are alot of bands in every genre. Some of the bands are bad and some of them are good. You just have to pick the ones you enjoy.
