Love the original, too, and I like the following even more when it segues into the title track that follows it on Word of Mouth (actually, that whole second side of that album works best when you think of it as a long suite), but at any rate, I love this even more than the original:

E ti vengo a cercare - CSI (Italy, 1996).

The Wordless Music Orchestra , Conducted By Ryan McAdams' performance of Basinski's "dlp 1.1" live At The Metropolitan Museum Of Art on September 11, 2011. Far more emotive, engaging, powerful, and communicative of the original concept than Basinski's original.

Sadly this performance is only available for purchase as part of the 9LP+5CD+DVD+art book box set which was limited to 2000 copies. If you ever come across one, buy it without hesitation.

that inspired one of mine - i always loved the A Perfect Circle song that was a mash up of Diary of a Madman and Lovesong (i only ever had the live version and i think it was called Diary of a Lovesong?) Anyone ever hear that?

Not the biggest fan of Eric Clapton but i used to listen to the acoustic, slow version of Layla... until i heard what i thought was the butchered, fast version - but later found out it was the original. So if that counts? i think eric clapton's own cover of his own song was better.

Never Goping Back Again by Matchbox 20 (originally by Fleetwood Mac).
Never could get into the original.
