Peter Gabriel's cover of the Magnetic Fields's "Book of Love". So much more passion than the original.

I get that they did it as a joke, though I also get the joke...

Seems more like your usual awful metal cover of non-metal music than a joke, but what do I know.

What I do know is that every metal band that has ever covered a non-metal song and given it harsh vocals (or for that matter covered a metal song that originally did not have harsh vocals with harsh vocals added in the cover version) have committed unforgivable crimes against the art of music. It just basically never translates well.

Ok I legit forgot about Death. Their version of Painkiller worked well too. But I've seen countless metal bands ruin songs they were presumably trying to pay homage to.

Rule #1 of metal should really be Nobody Gets To Cover Iron Maiden. It almost never works.

I can't think of one good cover of a Maiden song. I've heard some mangled ones for sure.

Step 1: Ruin the point of the original vocal approach.
Step 2: Add nothing else to cover for the thing you subtracted from the appeal of the song.
Result: Pointless garbage.

OMG the chorus makes me sad.
