I don't even try listening to music on laptop speakers. I wait till I get home.
I can live with PC speakers to try some new music, but the screeching sound that comes from a laptop hasn't got much to do with 'music', for me.
I don't know what it's like overthere, but it's a new hype here to play music on the train or bus or in city streets on your phone speakers. Mostly HipHop. It's just a bunch of noise to my ears. And it's annoying for other people. Really bothers me. Glad I have a car

Yeah, I'm waiting for those kinds of speakers to improve before I even try to listen without headphones.

I remember one time I was in at school, and the teacher said something like "there's double the amount of homework this week" or "there's going to be a test this week" or something. I turned to my deskmate.

Me: *Beethoven's fifth:* DUN DUN DUN DUN!
Him: What's that?
Me: You're kidding me, right?
Him: No, what is it?
Me: You've honestly never heard that before?
Him: No, what?
Me: Uh... Beethoven's fifth
Him: I only know Ode to Joy

Hurts when they say that. I think listening to music via laptopspeakers is more disrespectful to the musician than copying his cd's... When you copy, at least you listen to his music instead of to a set of rhythmic screeches...
I don't know about the whole "Hurts when they say that" bit, but I kind of understand what your getting at here. I have to believe that anyone who's content with always listening to music through their laptop speakers doesn't really appreciate it that much.

Or you just connect your laptop or mobile phone to a set of reasonable PC speakers or a stereo

You're probably not going to make friends by saying that, so I'll just back you up and say that I couldn't agree more .
You must miss so much of the music. You miss every detail, every bit of depth, every low tone that's in there.
Listening through laptopspeakers is killing music .

I mean, not everyone has to be an audiophile idiot like me. But a reasonable pair of speakers, a CD player and a nice ampilifier are to be found for less than $100. I don't understand why anyone should listen to laptop speakers or the plastic crap you find in loads of houses nowadays.

Ah well, I'm getting carried away. But for me, listening to really (and I mean really) bad sound equipment and feeling fine about it, is a musical statement I can't fathom.

I have so much audio equipment around my house it's bordering on speaker hoarding. I've got surround sound, some old vintage stereo speakers, an iHome, some decent Bose PC speakers, and a guitar amp (I'm counting it). That's just my living room.

So yeah, if all I had was some laptop speakers I'd probably get so frustrated that I might end up breaking my computer.

But still you like King Crimson's Court of the Crimson King (and so do I) and that sounds pretty awful. Doesn't change a thing. I wouldn't even want it to sound different now

I remember having a conversation with someone who considered this metal, when it came out a couple years back:
