Default I need some help making an Irish mixtape

My housemate is studying abroad in Ireland (Galway) next year and I'd like to make her a mixtape of Irish music for Christmas. Unfortunately, I know zilch about Irish bands aside from Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, and the Pogues.

She's a singer, so I think she'd enjoy Singer-Songwriter, Folk, and Alternative artists. Any suggestions will be thoroughly considered and very possibly burned onto a CD for her.

Check out The Dubliners, they're Irish and were an influence on on those Celtic-influenced punk bands. There's also Horslips who pretty much pioneered Celtic rock music. I don't know how popular Flogging Molly and the Dropkick Murphys actually are in Ireland. I know Flogging Molly's singer is Irish but other then that I think they're all American, as are the Dropkick Murphys.

Also: The Boomtown Rats, Sinead O'Connor, My Bloody Valentine, Ash, and Damien Rice are all Irish.

EDIT: I Just found out Van Morrison was Irish. I had no idea. My mind is kind of blown.

I don't think she's very fond of punk, thanks though

The Cranberries! Zombie is an awesome song. Also Two Door Cinema Club, they're quite an alright listen if you want something simple and lively. All the really good stuff has already been mentioned though.

Yeah, although on reflection, she was saying how she'd like some "Irish-sounding" music. When I think of "Irish-sounding" music, I think of celtic-rock and celtic-punk. Maybe that's just because Flogging Molly was the first Irish band I listened to, but I might throw some celtic-punk onto her mix just for variety.

What's the best Irish punk song you've ever heard?

Try The Corrs - they have sort of a folk sound, especially their earlier stuff.

I have friends studying abroad at NUI Galway this year

Actually The Boomtown Rats' have a song called I Hate Mondays which is hilarious, not punky, but it's also not very Irish sounding. Stiff Little Fingers also don't sound remotely Irish, just so you know.

I'd say any of Flogging Molly's popular songs (Drunk Lullabies, Seven Deadly Sins, etc) are the better Irish punk songs. I don't like the Dropkick Murphys though so I'm biased.
