Akon vs Bob Dylan

Taking the two most significant singer-songwriters of their respective times, which of these two era-defining genre-bending global superstars is the greater artist with the most praiseworthy contribution to music?

I will add my two cents shortly after gathering all the info to give it the fairest treatment.

Discuss.

I still haven't decided.
Though obvious troll is obvious, it really is a thought provoking question.

crash_override 01-05-2011 10:07 AM

Akon, and it's not even close.

Geetarguy 01-05-2011 02:33 PM

this is dedicated trolling pal lol

James 01-05-2011 02:36 PM

Both are real good bands but i'll go for Akon because he's a cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything.

TockTockTock 01-05-2011 07:23 PM

I don't understand what's so great about Akon. Someone mind filling me in? Until then, I'll go with Dylan.

Dirty 01-05-2011 07:25 PM

I'd rather listen to Akon. I actually really like his voice and his songs. I don't really like Dylan all that much.

TheBig3 01-05-2011 07:29 PM

who the **** is Akon?

Alright folks, theres the quota filled. Anyone else planning to make the whacky vote in an obviously lop-sided troll thread needs to get some new material.

RVCA 01-05-2011 08:49 PM

I'm akon to vote for Akon.

THIS THREAD IS JUST RIDICULOUS. One of them is the voice of his generation and the other is just a twat with no talent and an attitude.

As if Bob Dylan could ever match up to Akon.......

Exactly. Akon speaks for millions. He represents the notion of "keepin' it real" more than anybody else in urban music and, more to the point, more than anyone in modern music period. Akon came from the slums, spent time in the slammer, and managed to totally turn his life around. He is the embodiment of the American dream - one of the few culturally significant artists in modern times who came over to the States from dire circumstances and, through immense talent and perseverance, made it big. Unlike T-Pain and countless others he requires no auto-tuning to make his voice sound basically perfect, and above all in spite of his wealth he keeps it real, prefering to live in the projects rather than in some show-off mansion. His Gallardo is one of his few excesses. He is a voice for austerity in tough times, yet resonates as a voice for the masses who have ever had a dream. It is this duality that makes him stand out as THE voice of his generation, both in terms of social significance and singing prowess. Add to that the point that he writes his own words and melodies without having to rely on a team of 400 professional song writers, and you have one of the most talented people around.

Your dedication to trolling is impressive.

However, I do want to take this opportunity to enlighten anyone who doesn't already know, that Akon is the least "real" dude in the business. He hasn't spent time in prison. You can find tons of interviews where he talks about crimes and convictions that never happened. Most artists are fabrications for marketing, but few really take it this far. He was never locked up for years or anything like that. He's just a dude who has a good voice who makes party songs.

You are a damn liar. Not only has he been arrested on multiple occasions, for a felony too, he spent time at one of America's toughest prisons. Akon is as real as they come. He has more of a criminal history that even the biggest of posers like 50 Cent. Akon has proven that he is a hard man on multiple occasions, not least when he threw a fan right off the damn stage. Who else in music has physically thrown a fan off the stage? Nobody ever. This is incontrovertible evidence that Akon is for real. He takes no shit from NO-body. Word.

Throwing a 15 year old off stage is nothing! I'm not impressed...

A real bad ass would have dry humped and had simulated sex on stage with a 14 year old!

And who have YOU ever thrown off any stages? You probably couldn't even muster the strength to throw a roll of bathroom tissue off a stage, and then you start claiming you're not impressed at Akon's feat. Well nobody's impressed with you, while a large number of people ARE impressed with Akon. Therefore Akon > You and is the winner.

I've thrown many little kids off of playground equipment. I'm talking slides, jungle gyms, and even swingsets. I once pushed two 8 year olds off of monkey bars at the same time. So what's more impressive? Pushing two 8 year olds (basically one 16 year old) off of high monekybars onto a hard Earth surface, or throwing a 15 year old int a crowd where people catch him?

Well, get this, I bet your petty playground endeavours never resulted in anybody's paralysis:

Akon is more badass than you by FAR.

I'd rather discuss Kanye West vs. Dylan and even that's a stupid discussion.

5 reasons Dappy is better than any member of The Beatles.

1. The hat

http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kvu3uerV4d1qaxr0h.jpg

2. Fit chav cousin

http://www.barrym.com/m-club-assets/...rom-n-dubz.jpg

3. The music

4. No member of The Beatles has ever been on Never Mind The Buzzcocks

5. Dappy's group aren't as mainstream, they never had N Dubz mania.

RVCA 01-06-2011 03:07 PM

Backstreet Boys > Elvis Presley

they just had better dance moves, man
