Favourite Falling Out of Love/Heartbreak Songs

A couple that immediately come to mind for me are:

Crywank - Welcome To Castle Irwell (James Is Going To Die Soon)

S - This Way Always (I'm Not As Good At It As You)

I listened to both of these albums alot when I broke up with my girlfriend few months ago. Love these albums and artists alot.
The saddest lyric that hit me so bad last fall was from Two by The Antlers:
"Tell me when you think that we became so unhappy,
Wearing silver rings with nobody clapping.
When we moved here together we were so disappointed,
Sleeping out of tune with our dreams disjointed."

This hit me so bad because it was exactly what was happening to me and my girlfriend. When me moved here we were so dissapointed. We grew so distant and I became so depressed that I couldn't sleep very well. I also lost alot of weight because of I was so depressed I pretty much didn't eat at all. One thing that kept me sane was music. Now I'm so happy with my life and everything. But its still amazing to listen to these.

I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them, but they were only satellites
is it wrong to wish on space hardware?
Oh I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care

This is also one of my favorites for a breakup
ya don't miss meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, I knooooooooooow

djchameleon 02-05-2011 12:04 AM

How you gonna up and leave me now?
How you gonna act like that?
How you gonna change it up, we just finished makin' up
How you gonna act like that?

How you gonna act like we don't be makin' love
You know we be tearin' it up, breakin' stuff, that ghetto love
How you gonna trip, how could you forget?
How you gonna act like that?

Classic one here

At Heartbreak Hotel.
Where I'll be...
I've been so lonely baby,
Well I'm so lonely,
I'll be so lonely I could die.

I don't care what you say
I don't play the same games you play.

Sooo..its like almost unspeakable as a guy to admit to liking songs or bands for that matter of this kind of music. Meaning its not exzactly a manly thing but i have to admit ive always liked them from a very young age. I still think they had some great songs in their day and were very talented for the gnre they chose to partake in.

djchameleon 02-05-2011 12:12 AM

to admit to liking boys2men? r&b? or love songs in general you mean?

Yeah more so the whole love song generalizaton factor I guess. I forgot all about them till I was flipping through the channels and saw them on VH1 earlier.

Thom Yorke 02-05-2011 12:32 AM

John Lajoie in "Show Me Your Genitals": I don't have feelings, 'cause feelings are gay.

I think it's more manly to just admit it.

That song's a beauty.

Were you already familiar with it? Or did you just listen to it for the first time?

This one's more cryptic, like all of Matthew Good's songs, but I do believe this is a big F-U to the ex.

Ahhh..it will become more and more addicting to listen too...If your a fan of Blues at all....which has to be the King of heartbreak songs..just the delivery is not in such a mushy love song formula..Maybe you will enjoy this as well..As you can tell from my name Blues is my pride and joy. Only with Blues it seems to be more soothing heatache music..if that makes sense...

yoshiman 02-05-2011 02:25 AM

When it comes to love songs, I'm just going to say "The Beatles."

Thom Yorke 02-05-2011 02:27 AM

You could almost think this is just an "I miss you" song, but the line "And it's going to carry on" coupled with the video makes it petty obvious that it's dealing with the death of a loved one.

Bloozcrooz 02-05-2011 02:29 AM

Even though I use to think of Mayer as a huge douche he does have some respectable music and guitar talent. This is one of my favorites.

Thom Yorke 02-05-2011 02:31 AM

Can't believe I forgot about this one:

This one was ok..hard to make out what she's saying sometimes though.

Hold onto love that is what I do now that I've found you.
And from above everything's stinking, they're not around you.

And in the night, I could be helpless,
I could be lonely, sleeping without you.

And in the day, everything's complex,
There's nothing simple, when I'm not around you.

But I'll miss you when you're gone, that is what I do. Hey, baby!
And it's going to carry on, that is what I do. Hey, baby...

Hold onto my hands, I feel I'm sinking, sinking without you.
And to my mind, everything's stinking, stinking without you.

And in the night, I could be helpless,
I could be lonely, sleeping without you.

And in the day, everything's complex,
There's nothing simple, when I'm not around you.

La Dispute - New Storms For Older Lovers

"I guess love's a funny thing—the way it fades away without a warning.
It doesn't ask to be excused.
And when it's gone—oh, it's gone—and it ain't ever comin' back.
There is nothing you can do to save it,
To make it breathe the way it did when you were sliding on the ring.
Trust me: It's gone for good."

Charlemagne 02-05-2011 07:09 AM

^Yes to Crywank earlier and to La Dispute TheFolkSlave...I have a ton of these, since I love heartbreak songs, but here are two to start.

Let's see, this one proved to me that I had actually fallen out of love with my ex girlfriend...

"Some day I will never see you again
And you might not believe this
But you've changed me so much
But baby, baby it's so hard leaving you
And maybe, maybe this was the only,
The only way yeah, yeah"

"And now all your love is wasted
And Then who the hell was I?
And I'm breaking at the britches
And at the end of all your lines"

Edit: Oh and absolutely yes to Brand New RVCA, such a sad, yet amazing song.

Howard the Duck 02-05-2011 07:57 AM

Bob Dylan - You're a Big Girl Now

TheFolkslave 02-05-2011 08:36 AM

^ Love that Bon Iver song.

EF - Tomorrow My Friend

Amazing song from my favorite post-rock band. Sad lyrics on the spoken part.
"this is the last time I will hold your precious body
while days are passing by, and swallows each moment whole
I'll miss your lips... your smile, the glimpse in your eyes and your greatness
I hate to feel this way, but all good things must come to an end
this is ours. from now on there is no tomorrow my friend
how could I know? how should I feel?
I'm misled by words never spoken
how could I know? how should I feel?
I'm misled by a smile never shown"

Death Cab For Cutie - The Ice Is Getting Thinner

I felt really sad listening to this when last fall when we were growing apart with my now ex-girlfriend.

"We're not the same, dear, as we used to be
The seasons have changed and so have we
There was little we could say and even less that we could do
To stop the ice from getting thinner under me and you"

The whole album is pretty much perfect to listen to if you're feeling heartbroken. It's very moving.

Here's some of my choices that fit the bill

Some brilliant lyrics in this song, and the whole tone of the song goes so well with the lyrics.

Written and recorded after he broke up with his first wife. Great video as well, it really captures the mood of the song.

I love this song so much. The emotion in her voice is both sad and captivating.
