Default Just curious, do you read or just post?

I noticed page one of the general section has mostly topics that are asking a question. Like "albums your digging" or "best song" or that kind of thing. I don't intend to bash here but I'm just curious if people like these type of threads. I know they get lots of posts and take up page one forever because people love to post their own great opinions, but I wonder if people are reading all these posts or they just enjoying sharing their own response. I suspect that it's mostly the latter. And if that's true, what's the point. Everyone posts, nobody reads. Maybe I'm way off here. Blast away...

You clearly fall into the latter category, because if you'd taken a minute to read those threads you'd realize that it's quite common for people to discover new music as a result of what other people have posted.

I read sometimes. I want lie and say I read all the posts but usually I flip through and read four or five pages at the time. I find those threads to be useful in finding new music that I might enjoy.

Hmmm, ok. That's great then. Seems like a painful way to find new music. Wading through hundreds of suggestions to find a gem.

I use last.fm and amazon and itunes. Far more effecient as my search is narrowed to recordings similar to ones I own.

But, if it works for some people, that's great.

I've found you can only go so far that route though before you start mostly getting recommendations for stuff you're already familiar with. Plus it's a lot more helpful when you actually have some idea of the tastes of the people hyping a given band.

I don't read everything. Just don't have the time. But I do read what looks interesting (and is music related), and look up quite a few of the bands that look good.

So I'm on the fence, I suppose.

And yes, I did read the other replies to this thread. :-p

This is basically what I do as well. Those threads are not really designed to be discussion threads, but they give members a chance to share the music they like at the moment, whether or not anyone pays attention.

I spend at least 90% of my time on here just reading and not posting at all in the threads, to be honest. If I feel like I have something worthwhile to contribute or have something I'm really excited / passionate about to share, I will post it. Other than that, I spend hours on here just reading through and checking out what other people are posting about.

A lot of times, that's even in threads that have been dead for quite some time. I read a lot on here.

I make lists of those topics and discover new bands.
I will post those in the 'last bought or downloaded' thread afterwards .

I don't post there very often as I don't think I play much music people don't know or care about here. But I do get a lot of information from those topics

Not at all. If you stay here enough you're going to get an idea of who likes what and who has similar taste and such. If I see a person with similar taste to mine posting in those threads I will usually check it out, or if people describe the album and it sounds like something I would like I check it out. Maybe I just have too much free time though. I mean I use last.fm and all but yeah.
