Slate a band

basically, completely rip into the band you despise the most. give all your reasons and back them up.

Tommyrocker 04-05-2005 03:00 PM

Sigh

Hmm, i dunno how to choose...ill go with the easiest one...
THE BEATLES I hate the way everyone (particularily old people) use them to suggest they're the greatest band ever. It's a simple case of being there at the right place, at the right time. They were unique at that time. However now, in my opinion, they're ****. God bless em they deserve everything they got it's not their fault they were consumerists delight but, i really do ****ing hate them.

Who's your worst band (inserts name of next person later)?

Sneer 04-05-2005 03:58 PM

im going with Guns n Roses. although i dont mind live and let die (which wasnt even theirs) i generally look upon GNR with such abhorrency. firstly, Axl Rose- sounds like a cat being kicked up the backside. he is an absolute arse who fleeced the rest of the band out of all of their undeserved earnings, he stil thinks he can create a masterpiece damn him. neext, slash. despite his obvious talent, he is NOT the best the world has ever seen in my opinion like soo many of my generation seem to think. sure he can do a mean solo but solo aint everything. anyway, he goes way over the top (note november rain outside the chapel hair blowing in the wind meaningful facial expression etc). thirdly, the rest of the band- who the ****? duff and matt- i only know of them because of velvet revolver. GNR's songs are nothing spectacular in my opinion. sweet child of mine, its ok. the riff makes it into a so called "classic" while the guitar solo is again over-indulgent. november rain- lets not go there. paradise city- catvhy while again, not amazing. welcome to the jungle- my heart sinks when i hear the intro to it. this hatred partly stems from my sister being obsessed with them. and i know you dont all agree but its just my personal opinion. btw, how a band can become legends on basically one good album and a mediocre double disk album baffles me. if thats the case, why arent the stone roses seen in a higher esteem? i know GNR made more records, but only two are of any real importance.

because stone roses released about 3 good songs, not albums. furthermore, you say that white stripes have 4 fantastic albums, they don't hold a candle to the Guns'n'Roses collection. So i think "one good album" is a bit of a shocking declaration.

Sneer 04-05-2005 04:13 PM

what other guns and roses albums were a huge success? and 3 good songs? what the ****? try a greatest hits packed full of classics. the white stripes have 4 great albums yet they have released nowhere near as many singles as GNR did. and they are a generally more low key than GNR.

Trauma 04-05-2005 04:16 PM

I really don't like Queen now that you mention it because at one time..I did. BUT, every older lady that I meet says,"Queen's The Absolute Best, Yeah!" And I kind of DISAGREE with that because Queen just appealed to many with their catchy-ass songs "We Will Rock You", "We Are the Champions", and "Under Pressure" feat David Bowie. So in conclusion, I believe that if Queen had not released three of the catchiest, easiest, get stuck way the hell up in your head type of songs, then they would not be where they were today. (But I never said Freddy Murcury is a bad vocalist, because I can't fathom how he can stay in tune on some high notes.)

Sneer 04-05-2005 04:20 PM

thats like saying "oh if black sabbath didnt release paranoid they'd be nothing". it just isnt true. yeah, they made 3 catcvhy songs- testament to them for doing so. yet they have so many more classics than just those 3.

Wish I could say that :(

Oh, I forgot to list "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Another One Bites the Dust" but all those others are just minor hits, they weren't really That Great. Oh and Somebody to Love. Wasn't "Another One Bites the Dust" a remake anyways?

Queen were quite frankly the best thing ive heard live in quite some time (on DVD). give that to them.

Trauma 04-05-2005 04:42 PM

sure, lol.

Sneer 04-05-2005 04:45 PM

their certainly not my favourite but they've churned out some quality songs and a brilliant greatest hits. plus news of the world is one of my favourite albums.

Anarchy doll 04-05-2005 08:30 PM

I must disagree with all of your choices of slated bands frankly....they were around in a time that without their touch on life, e would never be where we are today musically,,Beatles broke new ground and gave kids something to stand up to their over bearing christian parents and are musically gifted, don't care!
GNR, I can do without, but Queen Man! Don't slag them off, Opera and rock n' roll combined? that is musical talent, experience and PUNK man! They don't care what you think! They KNOW it sounds cool and were not too scared to try it!
And Freddie Mercury was *** and open with it so he was a great influence on the *** people!
Black Sabbath though, I dunno, to me it is not so much the talent but the memories, all people know what those songs remind you of, especially when you were around when they were first recorded! a certain summer, a lover or a party even....
Some of these bands have been overplayed and run into the ground, and we become sick of it, but you have to go deeper than that and see what they did for us, and remember what they WERE and not what they are now.....
that's my peice....go ahead, show me my wrongs....

ArtistInTheAmbulance 04-06-2005 02:04 AM

I would have a rant about my most hated band in here, but I dont think Destinys child classes as a band any more... Id just like to say though, both Queen and Guns n Roses were huge at the time, and I love 'em both now. They made an impact on the public, so there must have been something special to them. Oh yeah, and I agree with Anarchy Doll's bit about how some of them have been overplayed, you do kinda have to look harder than just theyre most famous songs to get an idea of what the band is like..

All_Nite_Dinah 04-06-2005 06:14 AM

The Smiths, The Cure, and Bad Religion all bore the hell out of me. I cant listen to two songs let alon an entire album.

KingJen 04-06-2005 06:25 AM

I don't like Red Hot Chilli Peppers... Well... I like the californication album... But they're so over rated and silly... I don't like them. I don't like their music. It doesn't appeal to me.... Californication is them grown up and good. Its thoughtful. Its got meaning... but the rest is silly. And the Strokes. THey're over rated aswell. It all sounds the same to me...

Jen xx

Anarchy doll 04-06-2005 06:53 PM

I think that the Peppers bacam overrated AFTER Californication...and who wants to be grown up and good anyway?

The Strokes received more credit only from the critics than they did from the fans hun. How can they be so overrated if they only released two music videos on MTV? Not by the general public, ma cherie..

bit belated, the beatles have influenced so many of todays artists. they were diverse (just listen to revolver then magical mystery tour). "now their ****?" how can a band suddenly become **** after 40+ years as legends? their back catalogue speaks for itself. i respect your opinion on them but consumerists delight? true they were idolised by millions in their day (and still are) but thats only due to their brilliance. oh btw, its not just old people, a lot of younger people and indeed our generation appreciate them as one of the greatest. if in 40 years green day are hailed as an all time great i presume you'll say the same thing about being there at the right time and right place? yeah, im bored. touche.

ladyluckrules 04-07-2005 04:17 PM

The beatles are sweet, because i have memorys of watching there crazy film yellow submarine when i was little. They basically just had very good, harmonized voices, my favourite song is prob. eleanor rigby. But that's only my opinion

Sneer 04-07-2005 04:18 PM

Help! for me.

ladyluckrules 04-07-2005 04:25 PM

eleanor makes me sad..

Sneer 04-07-2005 04:27 PM

you want sad- listen to "shes leaving home". but yeah, eleanor rigby is a classic.

ladyluckrules 04-07-2005 04:28 PM

i'll check them out, lol it's probably just some childhood thing

Sneer 04-07-2005 04:30 PM

no them- it. its a beatles song. i think the fact it mentions "lonely" every 5 words sums the song up.

ladyluckrules 04-07-2005 04:35 PM

help & she's leaving home

Sneer 04-07-2005 04:38 PM

yep, two great songs

How very subjective of you.

Sneer 04-08-2005 04:19 PM

all opinion is subjective- subjectivity is the basis of an argument. what do you want me to say? "the beatles have had more british number ones then any other band in history" or "the beatles have sold an estimated 1 billion disks worldwide"? actually in hindsight i should have said that anyway.

i doubt theyd sell half that if they were starting as a band now.
