I got really drunk with the guys from Portugal. The Man after a show in Hoboken.

This was just before they released "Church Mouth" and was such a tiny stage. There only must have been like 50 people that showed up for the show and they played pretty long. After the show they literally hopped off the stage considering it was the only way to hop off the stage and they came right towards us and told us to get drunk with them.

So we did. ****ing cool guys.

Funny you mention Canadian Idol - my mom is really good friends with a much older half-sister of Ryan Malcolm, another one of the winners. Never met him though.

I have met Chan Marshall (Cat Power) and have had the priviledge of chattingwith her at length on several occassions.

I also met Henry Rollins in what were billion to one circumstances. I went to Birmingham (in the UK not Alabama) to see the Dark Knight at the cinema and when I came out I was walking to the bus stop and Henry came up to me saying "that Black Flag shirt is so gay man." I just happened to be wearing the only Black Flag shirt I owned at the time. It turned out that he was in Birmingham to do a spoken word show (which I ended up going to - he was hilarious). Anyway we spoke for about 5 minutes and had a nice talk. He's a funny guy off stage as well but he has a very intense stare. He stares right through you. I don't think he means anything by it though.

Ive also very briefly met Judah Bauer (he was playing guitar in Cat Power but I didnt really think much of him) and Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine. I didnt really get to say too much to them though. Patti Smith too but it was just a quick hello.

I once met the bassist from Into Eternity. I got to a show late and missed Into Eternity's set and had no idea what they looked like. And then after another band's set I was talking to these guys outside and they kept making fun of Into Eternity's bassist for some reason, and I find out later that he had been standing there talking to us the whole time.

damn you guys have met some of my favorites I wish you'd elaborate.

The only one that stands out is when I met the guy from The Toasters, Robert Hingley.

Me and my friends were all like fourteen and we hadn't been to many shows. we were their early and he was hanging out at the merch table and we all went up while one of my friends bought a shirt and we talked to him. he was really cool and gave us some guitar picks and stuff. i thought it was so cool

i emailed spoonboy and he was so col. he added me on facebook.

I've met the Feelies, which I thought was pretty cool. Can't think of anyone else...

the Proclaimers I guess. Not sure if that's something to be proud of.

My friends and I bailed on Micky Dolenz (of The Monkees) and his sister Coco a few years back to go to a party.

I also met Eddie Money, and he's the creepiest individual I think I've ever spoken too. Smarmy as all hell.

Also, horribly humiliating, but Billy Ray Cyrus is from here, and during the height of his "Achy Breaky Heart" fame, he came to the local hospital for an appearance. My grandmother was one of the head nurses, and managed to make it so I was allowed to be there and meet him, and I ended up hugging him and refusing to let go.

The Judds, (Naomi, and Wynonna and Ashley, but she's not a musician) are also from Ashland, and I've met them.

Oh, and I high-fived Todd Snider when he was in Ashland and walking down the street.

Aside from that, I've not really "met" any musicians so much as just talked to them briefly while they were signing stuff.

Stephanie Sun (Singaporean Mando-Pop idol) came to my former church once, as it was the Malaysian branch of City Harvest, the Singaporean church she goes to - everybody crowded arond for autographs and photos - i remember not having much interest, finding her songs boring, and she's skinny and gaunt

now if Penny Tan turned up (local Mando-Pop idol)...........
