Another one long before the Sex Drugs Rock 'n Roll phase.

So that evens it out.
Haha, I can't believe my bad math on Nick Drake.

I mean, they didn't start making music at the same age, they didn't get fame at the same age. Some didn't even get famous at all (like drake). So in some cases the life style would indeed take it's toll after a decade or so. But in some cases I just don't get it. I mean, if it were 'somewhere between 25 and 35', yes. But 27 spot on, almost in every case? Strange.
Come to think of it, Frusciante was aged 27 when he almost killed himself with drugs and such. Just in time.
Heh, it's funny that you mention John Frusciante, who didn't die, but neglect to mention Hillel Slovak who was 26 when he died. But I'll trade you that for another famous one: Brian Jones, dead at 27.

I always believe my own bad math. It's always the same.

Oh, I didn't know about Hillel Slovak. To be honest, I had to look him up.
Never really figured who went before Frusciante.
Jones... Righto. Another one.

Another thought I just had about that age is this: I think a lot of musicians tend to hit their peak of popularity in their mid to late 20s (even the ones who don't die) so it makes sense that a bigger deal is made of those who die at that age because it means they're dying at their peak. The vast majority of musicians actually die much later in life but it doesn't get the attention because there's no sense of feeling like they were cut down in their prime.

Edit: I just remembered another famous one that's close: Shannon Hoon, 28.

True.
But now name me at least 6 real famous musicians who died at... let's say 33.
There's a lot of ages, but 27 sure stands out.

Don't forget John Lennon and Michael Jackson. Those two are probably the most important of the "Artists that died after their 20's" group.

People cried like babies for these two after they died.

I was deliberately avoiding people who were murdered or died in accidents because that didn't seem to be what we were talking about, which is why I didn't put John Lennon (or Cliff Burton, Buddy Holly, Marc Bolan, etc.) on the list. Good point about Michael Jackson though, I can't believe I didn't think of him!
