Deftones being on here... they really didn't hit the mark til White Pony, the albums before may of hinted at this album, but at the core owe to much to the nu-metal trend and do not really hold up to this day, sound dated.
I agree with this. White Pony made them. Not all their albums are amazing.

I haven't fully read the thread only the OP and a few from the first page.

If by strong the OP means like having the most. One day I'd like to tackle Frank Zappa's Discography

EDIT: okay after reading the thread some of the other bands I would have mentioned were named already.

I'll have to think about this some.

You don't think Around the Fur stands on its own? I don't know, I think thats a tad misguided. Deftones, though, I feel are a bad that, if you made your own greatest hits album would own your GD face right off.

"Around the Fur" is a good album, but as I said.. not that different from what else was going on in the nu-metal trend of the time. "Headup" is a perfect example of this. It is better than "Adrenaline", but not even close to "White Pony", which i think is when they finally found their own identity and sound and shed much of the cliches that were dogging them before, and did it well.

They realised the time for that was almost up and needed to do something a little more unique I feel, and it worked.

"Around the Fur" to me will always be a good listen, but to me now, listening to it now, compared to when i first heard it... it just feels more nostalgic and dated, while I can still listen to "White Pony" and feel as if it is just as great now as it was when i heard it when I was really into that stuff.

So, "Around the Fur" may stand up in some ways, but in others it is dragged down for having a bit to many cliches to it.

I saw them last night and they played quite a bit of AtF. Honestly, I like the White Pony/SNW era much more. I hear Diamond Eyes in incredible, but I think AtF shouldn't bear the sins of its brothers.

I haven't read through the thread. But I'd say the Smiths. 4 amazing studio albums as well as the live album Rank. There are several compilations the three most known and best being: Hatful of Hollow, The World Won't Listen and Louder Than Bombs.

If Big Black ever released a subpar album then I must have been listening to it backwords or something by mistake.

Steve Albini may be a subpar human being, but he is never a subpar musician, I will give him that one.
