Bands You Inexplicably Hate

I like classic rock. I grew up with it, and I still listen to a good deal of it. If I'm ever forced to listen to the radio, I find the classic rock station.

But... I can't stand Aerosmith. I don't know why. I can't articulate what it is, and it's not just that I don't care for them... I HATE Aerosmith.

Derp.

Et toi?

Alfred 05-03-2011 02:06 PM

I hate The Sex Pistols.

sidewinder 05-03-2011 02:08 PM

My hatred for some bands is not inexplicable. :p: There's usually a specific reason(s).

But that's what this thread is for: those bands you hate but don't have particularly good reasons for hating.

midnight rain 05-03-2011 02:13 PM

Actually I tend to hate most of the classic rock stations. At least when they're playing Stuck in the Middle With You or Foreigner or Journey, any **** that should've died in the 70s

I hate them because they don't sound good, not sure if that's considered a good reason or not :/

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 05-03-2011 02:14 PM

I hate Aerosmith, as well. I find them tacky, hokey, and massively overinflated. Furthermore, I find them juvenile songwriters, and the worst of the worst of Rock N'Roll stereotypes. Aerosmith is very much a real life Spinal Tap. Not to mention their singer is a paedophile who got away with it because "Damn, those 70s were crazy times, man..."

/\ There's your excuse.

I'd say my perfect example may be NIN. I don't really have much of a super tangible reason to dislike it musically, I just don't, really.

s_k 05-03-2011 02:20 PM

Marillion, I really hate Marillion for some reason.

What have you listened to by NIN?

Charlemagne 05-03-2011 02:33 PM

I also hate Aerosmith...except I have a reason, which is that they are overrated, terrible song-writers, Steven Tyler can't sing, and that picture RVCA posted terrified me.

Inexplicable hatred: Cream, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Judas Priest, most classic and modern metal.

Nickelback (actually I don't know anyone who actually likes these guys)
AC/DC
Deep Purple
Most 80's hair bands (Poison, Whitesnake, Twisted Sister, etc)
Bon Jovi

RVCA 05-03-2011 02:56 PM

What the hell, who hates Deep Purple? :(

Everything, I had two siblings who were obsessed, and blared it out constantly. Mostly 'Downward Spiral' stuff. So, I don't know, if I don't like that, I don't imagine the rest appealing to me.

Alfred 05-03-2011 03:38 PM

I hate Coldplay, if anything, for their mediocrity.

DoctorSoft 05-03-2011 03:47 PM

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, they can suck a ****.

Exactly my response when I saw that they were mentioned. What's wrong with them?

Also, in before Brokencyde.

I'd hardly call my hatred for these groups "inexplicable". ;)

BastardofYoung 05-03-2011 04:39 PM

I can see some Deep Purple could be hated by some. But they had some great songs as well:

I can not think of any specific artists I can add off the top of my head.

jackhammer 05-03-2011 04:43 PM

I am hoping that posters understand the delineation between general dislike of bands and bands that fit into your usual listening realm but that you don't like (which is the threads purpose I hope) and don't go on a rant as we have threads for that already.

I usually revert to form regarding music and heavy guitar music is usually my default setting if push comes to shove but I don't really like Led Zeppelin, The Who or Deep Purple.

I will post more in depth why I don't like those bands much but I find all overrated and barely interesting.

Yeah but I feel like these same complaints can be levied against a whole bunch of other classic rock bands that I don't hate.

^

:o @jackhammer I really want an explanation for those!

Now, I don't hate this band, but this is a band I just don't like. No matter how much I listen to them, I cannot get into them. I simply don't like their music. The Velvet Underground. I have listened, listened, and listened, and the only song I like is "Pale Blue Eyes"...so that's a band that I dislike and everyone loves, which I could remember there was a thread around here like that but I figured i'll post it here.

Now, a band I hate...
The Sex Pistols. I just do not like anything about this band. They influenced most punk bands...yeah yeah...but this band I just despise. Their music hurts my ears, not because it's loud, but because it's rotten. (no pun intended) There is always that band that you just hate, this is mine. Sorry if my reason is lame, I just hate this band.

Burning Down 05-03-2011 05:20 PM

I have a general disliking for Deep Purple (although there are a couple of songs that are okay) most likely due to my mother's incessant playing of their records when I was growing up. I have a lot of memories that come back when I hear some of their songs, but they just never grew on me. Thankfully she balanced it out by also playing the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Elton John, and a lot of 90's music like Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana.

Whaaaaaaat?

I believe it is referencing the 1975 relationship between Steven and Julia Holcomb, the 14 year old groupie he was with for 3 years (he was 27 when they met). Though that is not pedophilia, that would be Hebephilia. Pedophilia is a sexual attraction to pre-pubescent children. The term Pedophile has become used to describe any relation with a partner who is under the age of consent, but only applies to those who are attacted to pre-pubecents.

But anyways. getting off topic.

I will add Led Zeppelin to my list actually. Do not get the appeal to them, and also can't stand how much they ripped off folk artists and wouldnt even give them credit. Tons of info out there on that though, won't get into that one.

One other.. Bob Marley. I do not hate him I guess, but think he is really overrated. The guy in my mind just rewrote the same album over and over and over and over. Much like say AC/DC did in hard rock.

AC/DC is another one I can't be bothered with anymore. Heard one album, you have heard them all. I guess that is somewhat of their success, they are like the old blanket you can always go back to cause you know it is always there for you and will never change.

Nosferatu Man 05-03-2011 05:31 PM

I hate Muse, cannot stand that whiny drone of a voice!

I would agree on Sex Pistols up the stage but I am not really into punk at all.

Burning Down 05-03-2011 05:31 PM

Sort of like Elvis and Priscilla Presley.

BastardofYoung 05-03-2011 05:33 PM

Don't forgot Jerry Lee Lewis and his 13 year old cousin.

@BastardofYoung

Couldn't agree with you more about AC/DC and Bob Marley. While I do like some songs, I don't understand people citing them as these great artists, I don't really get why they are praised as "one of the best".

I was shocked to see a Led Zeppelin article that talked about that topic. It was pretty disappointing, since I have been a fan of them since such a young age. The fact they don't even credit the artists kind of disgusts me.

I think a lot of bands in that era were playing heavily blues influenced music and not crediting artists. I am not condoning just I don't think the same legal systems were as developed as they are now etc.

Thom Yorke 05-03-2011 05:44 PM

I wouldn't say there's any band I hate inexplicably; there's always a reason. There are a couple bands like The Rolling Stones and Nirvana that I somewhat like but don't care too much for that I guess you could say is inexplicable though.

I like The Pistols as well, but think they get entirely to much credit. Plenty of other bands from that time and scene who seemed to be ignored who were doing great things. UK Subs, Anti-Nowhere League, The Vibrators and on and on. They were basically no more than a punk boy band assembled by Malcolm McLaren. Sid to me was just the poster boy for f*cked up youth who served no purpose other than to just be a bloodied face. Couldn't play, couldn't do anything.. Just added to the band to give them more danger. Do I think they are an awful band though, not at all. Just not one of the better ones.

I know many people also like Pink Floyd, but they do not do much for me either... Though I enjoy the pre-Darkside era, and especially "Piper....". I find "Darkside..." to be just average and "The Wall" to be one of the most over hyped albums ever. I think the songs work well in the context of the movie, with the visual accompaniments.. but as a stand alone album, to much filler and gets dull to me in a hurry.

jackhammer 05-03-2011 05:54 PM

Explanation:

The Who. Started as a decent Mod band with great hooks and a balls out attitude but then decided to make thematic Prog albums that were over indulgent unfocused pieces with the odd glimpse of a band that were dying to get to back to basics if it weren't for an ego on guitar. Who Are You and You Better You Bet are just 2 examples of a mediocre band making music that is akin to pub rock. Such a shame from a band that gave us My Generation, 5:15 and I Am The Sea.

Deep Purple. A genuinely talented band that rode the scene like some dock ridden whore. Whatever is is en vogue the purps followed. We shall start off as a bad psychedelic rock band, branch into Heavy Metal (even though 4 out of the five members in their strongest line up hated the genre) and then just end up splintering, playing what we can to survive whilst not having any identity other than Gillan and Blackmore.

Speed King is a phenomenal track and showed how intense they could be but then Mr Gillan started warbling on Child Of Time. No wonder Heavy music got a bad rep. Oddly enough Gillan (the band) made some great albums with many influences and melded them together. They were a band that were at complete odds with each other and just don't do anything for me.

Led Zeppelin: when the Zep kicked arse, they really kicked arse. Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed & Confused, Communication Breakdown, Trampled Underfoot, The Battle Of Evermore, No Quarter are brilliant tracks but they never made one single fulfilling album for me.

I cannot describe adequately why they just don't do it for me but I can say that their greatest tracks far surpass their their albums as a whole and anyone who tells me that Rock N Roll is a great track is deaf quite frankly.

AC/DC - Whenever I hear them I think of trailers for ****ty family comedies while I was growing up. The vocals are also complete ****.

Insane Clown Posse - I've hated them even before Miracles (that song just intensified it over 9000). The combination of stupid gimmicks and rabid cult like fans turns me off instantly.

Brokencyde - This needs no explanation
