Hello everyone!

I'm creating a mixtape that has a beachy, summer feel. I really like Indie music, but all music is very much acceptable. I would like some suggestions :) I'm going to be posting this to my music blog, Link removed, advertising not permitted. Anyone who gives me suggestions can be given credit on my blog, as long as you say I can refer to you and you'll have to give me a name or blog that I can refer to.

About the mixtape, so far, I have "Good Vibrations" by The Beach Boys, "Time to Pretend" by MGMT, and "A-Punk" by Vampire Weekend.

All suggestions are very much appreciated, and I will listen to all of them, then choose the ones I think fit the mixtape best.

Happy summer, everyone!

This may come as a surprise to many people, but a lot of good summer music exists beyond the indie-pop spectrum of things.

Well, I was working on something like that.
I'm a big reggae/dub fan so it's easy for me to fill up a tape with reggae.
But a lot of old reggae is actually quite psychedelic.
There's this one reggae song that's really summery to me. It's probably a cliché, but it's nice eitherway:

Why did you start two threads for this?

Summer ended back in Febuary, unless you're making this for next December, in which case, good job.

CanwllCorfe 05-21-2011 09:05 AM

For me it's not a song, but a whole genre.

No need to be like that. Summertime is approaching in the Northern Hemisphere.

This (Will Smith) is one of my favorite oldies. Not a real big fan of Kid Rock. It always reminds me of the song "Sweet Home Alabama" for some reason, (maybe its just me).

Haha, maybe because he stole the riff from "Sweet Home Alabama"? Oh, also he took from Warren Zevon at the beginning.

Sweet Home Alabama is a far better song, anyways:

(And I so agree). My personal view of Kid Rock is, in England he would be known as nothing more than a Fukking peasant. And here in the states he's nothing more than, "white Shiat on top of Shiat! So go and spend your money, I say. :o:

I know it's kinda so obvioius that you may have overlooked it but:

I am there right now on the beach. Might be too laid back for you though?

Not indie but every summer mix tape has to have some song that is bordering on the idiotic with a catchy melody that stays in your head for at least a week. I reccomend "Bag in da Box" (not a new song but truly a summer song if that).

Otherwise I would reccomend "Sittin on the dock of the bay" by Otis Redding. Always reminds me of summer.

Figures!
I didn't understand much of this either. It wasn't my thread.
Just discovered this.

Well, I guess... thread closed?

Threads merged. We can keep it all in one thread.

* Los Diablos: Un rayo de sol ("A sunray", 1970).

♫"Sha la la la la, oh, oh, oh.....................Sha la la la la, oh, oh, oh
Un rayo de sol, oh, oh, oh....................A sunray, oh, oh, oh...
me trajo tu amor, oh, oh, oh.......................brought your love to me, oh, oh, oh...♫ :)
(...)"

* Radio Futura
: Escuela de calor ("School of Heat", 1984). Perhaps some of you know it because of Guitar Hero, but this is a "summer classic" in the Hispanic world since 27 years ago:

♫ "Arde la calle al sol de poniente, ................................ Streets are burning under the setting sun,
hay tribus ocultas cerca del río ................................ there are hidden tribes near the river
esperando que caiga la noche. ................................ waiting for the night to fall.
¡Hace falta valor, hace falta valor! ................................ You gotta be brave! You gotta be brave!
¡Ven a la escuela de calor! ................................ Come to the school of heat!

«Sé lo que tengo que hacer para conseguir ................................ «I know what I have to do
que tú estés loco por mí; ................................ to make you crazy for me;
ven a mi lado y 'comprueba el tejido' mas... ................................ get close to me and 'check the fabric' but...
...¡cuida esas manos, chico!
» ................................ ...mind those hands, boy!»

Esa paloma sobrevuela el peligro: ................................ That dove flies over the danger:
aprendió en una escuela de calor. ................................ she learned in a school of heat.

Vas por ahí sin prestar atención ................................ You walk around without paying attention
y cae sobre tí una maldición. ................................ and you get a curse.
En las piscinas privadas las chicas ................................ In private swimming pools, girls
desnudan sus cuerpos al sol. ................................ undress their bodies under the sun.

No des un paso, no des un mal paso, ................................ Don't take a step, don't take a false step,
esto es una escuela de calor. ................................ this is a school of heat.

Deja que me acerque, ................................ Let me get closer,
deja que me acerque a tí. ................................ let me get closer to you.
Quiero vivir del aire, ................................ I want to live on air,
quiero salir de aquí. ................................ I want to get out of here.

Arde la calle al sol de poniente, ................................ Streets are burning under the setting sun,
hay tribus ocultas cerca del río, ................................ there are hidden tribes near the river,
esperando que caiga la noche estoy. ................................ I'm waiting for the night to fall.
¡Hace falta valor! ¡Hace falta valor! ................................ You gotta be brave! You gotta be brave!
¡Ven a la escuela de calor! ................................ Come to the school of heat." ♫

It kinda reminds me of Super Mario Sunshine.

Even though it's technically winter here, I'll submit a song that screams summer to me:

Neapolitan 06-22-2011 11:56 PM

The ultimate summer song by The Young Veins, and
they unbelievably sound like The Rutles
btw Ryan Ross and Jon Walker were from P!ATD

That's a great song. I wish I could find more on this band.

Los Iberos had a short career. They came up in the late 60's, strongly influenced by the British bands of the moment. But in 1970 one of the main members had to leave the group due to the after-effects from a car accident, and then the band wasn't the same anymore. They finally broke up in 1973. But at least they left us some great singles. There is this compilation album including their songs in English: Hiding Behind my Smile, Why Can't We Be Friends?, Back in Time, Nightime and others.

Gino Paoli: Sapore di sale ("Taste of Salt", 1963). A well-known Italian summer song:

♫ "Sapore di sale, ................................ Taste of salt,
sapore di mare ................................ taste of sea
che hai sulla pelle, ................................ that you have on your skin,
che hai sulle labbra ................................ that you have on your lips
quando esci dall'acqua ................................ when you come out of the water
e ti vieni a sdraiare ................................ and lay back
vicino a me, ................................ beside me,
vicino a me. ................................ beside me.

Sapore di sale, ................................ Taste of salt,

sapore di mare, ................................ taste of sea,
un gusto un po'amaro ................................ a taste a bit bitter
di cose perdute, ................................ of lost things,
di cose lasciate ................................ of things left
lontano da noi, ................................ far away from us,
dove il mondo è diverso, ................................ where the world is different,
diverso da qui. ................................ different from here.

Qui il tempo è nei giorni ................................ The time here is in the days

che passano pigri ................................ that pass lazily
e lasciano in bocca ................................ and leave in the mouth
il gusto del sale. ................................ the taste of the salt.
Ti butti nell'acqua ................................ You plunge into the water
e mi lasci a guardarti ................................ and leave me watching you,
e rimango da solo ................................ and I stay alone
nella sabbia e nel sole. ................................ in the sand and the sun.

Poi torni vicino ................................ Then you return by my side

e ti lasci cadere ................................ and leave yourself fall down
così nella sabbia ................................ like this on the sand
e nelle mie braccia. ................................ and into my arms.
E mentre ti bacio, ................................ And while I kiss you,
sapore di sale, ................................ taste of salt
sapore di mare, ................................ taste of sea,
sapore di te. ................................ taste of you.
" ♫

If you want some ideas. Goodmusicallday.com has a mixtape series like this called the chill summer mixtape series. You should do it like that. I will definitely download it if you make one :)

Personally I have been listening to a lot of Mew this summer so I would say my song of the summer so far would probably be Repeaterbeater.
