It was a toss-up between Bathory and Butthole Surfers but I went with Bathory. I have the song 'In Conspiracy With Satan' off that album and I'm interested in hearing the entire thing. I love that raw, primative metal sound as well.
I like it for simply how it sounds, as well; great momentum and energy, and the production does anything but hamper the sound. Really great stuff. I also like the album because of how punk it is, for lack of a better word. Quorthorn himself talked about how - leading up to the recording - he was mainly listening to Manowar & The Exploited, and he really, really hit the punk mark.

Seems like it will be the Butthole Surfers album, this will be a new departure from me I only flirt with punk rock, gently.

Of course. But if I vote on something I like to do it from a position of knowledge than just pre-existing preferences like maybe some might.

I think the point is not so much to be right or pick your favourite but to sort of enter a mindset of openess to whatever you will be looking for, it's the journey of discovery most of us are after here with regard to whatever album it may be

I still don't think the mindset is as open as you think. It's more based around what groups or styles people already know about or feel they should know based on what others have said. People are generally voting for music they know about already, even if they feel they don't know it well enough. Maybe for 2 or 3 it might be different, but not with most here.

I don`t think we have to worry overmuch about people`s motives for voting. It`s a bit like voting in a real election: your motive is really your own affair. Some people vote for a presidential candidate on a whim to try something different, some people vote for a party they are informed about and always support. Either way, the selection of the winner is beyond our individual control and so a random element is introduced.
As long as we follow these two album club rules, below, some people will be discussing an album from a position of knowledge, others from a position of ignorance. That sounds fine to me.

I agree people can pick an album with whatever motive they want, nobody can control somebody else's motive anyway. I'm just saying I don't really think people just choose albums based on expanding their horizons which is what was suggested. I know most people don't pick out music on that basis, most pick something in a style they are familiar with or an artist they have heard of before. I have expanded my horizons over my life with music (I've probably heard all these artists in something before except Spinal Tap), but I do so in a direction I want when I want I suppose. For example at this very moment I'm listening to some early Indian film music songs.

^ Oh yes, I see what you mean. Most people will go for something they are at least a little familiar with. That`s just the way it goes, I guess. At least people are given the opportunity to be adventurous here, or like me, they may find that adventurousness will be thrust upon them whether they like it or not !
I bet there was an album of Indian film music released in 1984 ; you should`ve put it in as a nomination - or you could put one here instead : http://www.musicbanter.com/country-f...lbum-club.html

Well I'm just listening through a compilation. I already know some songs I like but I want to add to them. I like building my own compilations often rather than depending on finding a classic album all the time.
