I really didn't like X & Y that much, but I'd like to get into this band. Starting album OTHER than X & Y?

Start with A Rush of Blood To The Head. Their best album IMO, it's got some of their famous singles (Scientist/Clocks) as well as some very underrated songs by them.

X&Y is alright but it's missing that intangible that made their first two albums so great. I've never been able to describe exactly what, but it's not there. But Rush of Blood/Parachutes are both excellent.

Garden State makes "Don't Panic" even better.

Yeh I remember watching it in school a couple days after I bought A Rush of Blood to the Head and recognizing Chris' voice and going 'oh ****, that's Coldplay!' I bought Parachutes right after school that day.

Wait you got to watch Garden State in school?! This is bull, I think we watched "A Separate Peace" about 16 times and nothing else.
