If, like you said before, Coldplay can't read music etc. then how does making simple music constitute 'selling out' on their part?

I'm pretty sure they're just in it for the money and if they're not then it still doesn't excuse their leeching off Radiohead.

Leeching what exactly? Music or market?

WHAT have they leached off Radiohead? If it was market appeal then how is it Coldplay have a much larger market share than Radiohead? And if its music then, well, Coldplay don't sound exactly the same as Radiohead so you must be complaining that Coldplay's music is influenced by Radiohead... heaven forbid!

EDIT: The motives for somebody making music is irrelevant when judging that music.

I thought I already explained it (leeching).

And if the motives are irrelevant then I guess you're saying the lyrics are meaningless and that people just make music for the fun of it so it has no art involved with it whatsoever.

You haven't already explained it. You made the statements:

"Coldplay are the poppy and ****ty version of Radiohead",
which is a reasonable opinion to have and

"(Coldplay) won't leave our radios because of Radiohead"
which does not make sense. Explain this please.

As for motives being irrelevant when judging the music. The motives are relevant for the person who is making the music, but I don't think they're directly relevant to the listener. Its the final product that is relevant for the listener.

The rest of your statement... it just seems to be rambling.

Stop guessing and start thinking. We've already seen enough rhetoric for one day.

Okay: Coldplay won't leave our radios, and they wouldn't be there in the first place if it wasn't for Radiohead.

If it's not relevant to the listener then I don't see the point in analysing music as an art form and that seems strange since music is a from of art.

That's not much of an enlargement on what you said the first time. Its not an explanation. What, do you want me to take for granted that Coldplay were only played on radio because Radiohead had been played first?

Okay, I'll take you back a bit here, as I might have been as vague with this as you've been with the previous statement. You had already brough up money as a motive for Coldplay to make their music. I'm saying that the motives (i.e. money, sex, fame or love of music) for a band to create music are not a relevant criteria for liking or disliking their music. Yes, the end product will be a result of the motives and everything else that went into the music, but its still not appropriate to place importance on the motives as a listening aid, when the music itself is there for you to judge.

That's not what I mean by rhetoric. By rhetoric I mean 'trying to cloud the debate with emotive language, imagery and distraction techniques'. There are numerous meanings of the word, but that's the one I'm using.

Well, hating Yes and The Ramones and liking Dream Theater and Canibal Corpse makes you something much worse than a ****ing dip****.

My guitar lessons teacher likes both of them a lot. So that is two, I think I can stand saying that I like them just so you'll hang yourself and do the world a favor.
