What song comes to mind when I say GTA?

I have fond memories of driving through Los Santos in my Low Rider blasting out Ice Cube's "It Was a Good Day" ;) And of course Whitey Shafer's "All My Exes Live In Texas" - good times.

One of my guilty pleasures was the Flashback 95.6 radio station in Grand Theft Auto III. I really don't like pop music that much, but I remember singing along to all the songs that station played whenever I was driving about doing drive-bys and such. Looking back it's kind of a mix of Alex DeLarge singing "Singing In the Rain" mixed with Patrick Bateman talking about Huey Lewis and the News... which is quite horrifying really...

Oh I also remember that god damn ear worm "Schweine" by Glukoza in Grand Theft Auto IV. I also have Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for introducing me to Faith No More.

Mrd00d 08-27-2011 08:16 PM

GTA3: Chatterbox all day long. I even downloaded the show so I could listen to it whenever I wanted. I should re download that for a refresher. Animals in a box directly to your door commercials, and what have you. Lazlo.

GTA Vice City, I was on V Rock with Lazlo again. 2 Minutes to Midnight, Bark at the Moon, *** on Feel the Noise, Peace Sells.

GTA San Andreas, it was all K-DST. Smokin, Horse With No Name, Green River, Slow Ride, lol Hold the LINE (love isn't always love isn't always on time), Barracuda, White Wedding, 2 Tickets to paradise (**** Eddie Money), Strutter, and Runnin Down a Dream!

But I did also like Radio X... Unsung, Midlife Crisis, Cult of Personality, Rusty Cage, Killin In the Name, Been Caught Stealing, Them Bones, Plush.

Also listened to the reggae station a bit, but not enough to remember any songs in particular.

They did a great job in San Andreas soundtrack.

I don't know if anyone else had the urge to do this whilst playing GTA: San Andreas, but I listened to different stations depending on where I was.

Los Santos - Radio Los Santos; Ice Cube, Compton's Most Wanted, NWA, Kid Frost, Too Short, etc.

Countryside - K Rose; Whitey Shafer, Eddie Rabbit, Statler Brothers, Wille Nelson, etc.

San Fierro - I went for Radio X whilst I was here, just because I wasn't a big house music fan, so neglected SFUR.
Radio X; Helmet, Depeche Mode, Primal Scream, Living Colour, L7, Ozzy Osbourne.

Desert - K-DST; Rod Stewart, America, Heart, Billy Idol, Toto, etc.

Las Venturas - CSR 103.9; Bobby Brown, Boys II Men, Today, En Vougue, Samuel, etc.

Anybody else lol?

djchameleon 08-28-2011 08:41 AM

More recently from GTA IV that one Busta Rhymes song "Where my money?" Everytime it came on I got the urge to just run over pedestrians and start collecting money from their bodies. I would go on a rampage just beating them up with punching them as well

ltoffee 08-28-2011 08:49 AM

The only GTA game I've played enough to remember the soundtrack is San Andreas. I was obsessed with that game for about 18 months. I LOVED K-Rose... after playing All My Exes Live In Texas, I remember the woman saying something like, "All my exes are six feet under the ground. That's the difference. I've never been divorced... just frequently widowed." I'm looking through the soundtrack now & I don't remember Alice In Chains being played on Radio X. I haven't played the game in about 5 years coz my disc broke but the stand out tracks for me were "Free Bird" & "Today Was A Good Day" ... and the whole of K-Rose. Dayuum I miss that game, I'm gonna buy it when I next have money.

Most definitely. Loved doing this, they had radio stations that so perfectly fitted the different areas of the game.

Anyways I definitely enjoyed some of the less known (made specifically for the game, I think) music used in GTA III, especially the rap station.

Vice City's radio captured the setting of the game perfectly.

San Andreas easily had the most varied (and overall best) radio stations.

And GTA IV kinda sucked for the most part (like the game). Except 1979, cause Smashing Pumpkins rule.

Lazlow was hilarious in all the GTA's though

I believe the AIC song was Them Bones, not 100% though

Micheal Jackson - Billie Jean

Also that Ozzy Osbourne song in SA, Hell Raiser or Hellracer or something, because I heard it over and over and over again while trying to beat that damn RC plane mission

GTA: IV set records for having the most licensed music in a video game, but I felt as if it was a below-par soundtrack.

Maybe that's because it appealed less to me personally; i.e. the Eastern European, Ambient and Nu Jazz stations.

I found myself only ever on the two rap stations, the one fronted by Iggy Pop, that had Genesis, Bowie and Smashing Pumpkins & Tuff Gong.

I found myself listening to the eastetn europeon station quite often in the early parts of the game. There was an awesome russian rap song that got me hooked to that station.

Whenever I was in the bronx area for the storyline, I loved the reggaeton station

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 08-29-2011 05:46 AM

2 Minutes Till Midnight was probably the best song licensing choice they've done.

Which one was it in? I don't remember hearing Maiden

Raust 08-29-2011 06:27 AM

GTA IV Goodbye Horses, I always found that song fitting for some reason.

Husky McDump 08-29-2011 07:02 PM

I SING THE FUNKY 'LECTRIC, I SING THE FUNKY 'LECTRIC, I SING THE FUNKY 'LECTRIC.

On a Journey - idk who

Uh, no. Why would I ask the community to make decisions for me? I'm a mod. I can do it on my own.

Why did this even come up just now?

I'm pretty relaxed.
I also know what thread you're referring to, but I really don't see the connection.

The topic of posts lacking substance.

Anyways I think this has gone on long enough, eh? Probably wouldn't hurt to delete the last couple of posts.

Oh, believe me... if we supported deleting all posts lacking substance, this place would be pretty bare and there would be a ridiculously unsolvable standard-war.

But yea, this has gone on long enough. I didn't expect the response I got.
But sh*t, if you wanna keep on, I'm not going to stop you. As long as you know that nothing comes to my mind when you say GTA, I'm good.

I just wanted, you know, an explanation of why you don't like GTA. "It's possible" isn't really an explanation of 'why' so much as 'how'.

The answer is valid.
That was my explanation. I don't need it to be approved by you. I appreciate your curiosity and all, but I just never enjoyed the franchise. I don't know what to tell you, and I'm certainly not going to expend any effort to try to provide some kind of justification for my own perspective.

The end.

Manufacturing discussion like this isn't really worth anything.
At least, not in a thread like this.

Again, I apologize for inserting what I inserted. The thread obviously could have done without my initial comment, what with it sparking something completely irrelevant. I take the blame.

End discussion?

Yeah that's cool.

Mrd00d 08-31-2011 01:53 PM

yikes LOL

so...
I gotta say out of all those I posted earlier, nothing beat when Tom Petty came on. I remember specifically enjoying it while jumping off the mountain and onto the little trailer park town in San Andreas.

and equally memorable was rockin out to Skynyrd driving through the desert!

14232949 08-31-2011 02:47 PM

^ Agreed with above. You're right on the money man.
I know a lot of people preferred GTA IV's more compact environment, but when you'd played the story, there wasn't much to entice you to keep playing.

It's the little things like recreating 9/11 in a stolen plane in San Fierro, or as you said driving a BMX off the top of Mount Chiliad with no parachute.

djchameleon 08-31-2011 03:19 PM

Are you kidding me? I loved the multiplayer from GTA IV.

I would jack a car and three other friends with jump in and we would go doing drive bys on our way to the airport where there was usually a big duel going on for who is going to take a copter from that place. Once all four of us got one we would go around terrorizing people or pair up and just two of them.

Hours of fun. Also, picking someone to be your arch enemy and just chasing them on an endless car chase is pretty fun too.

I could never get a game.
The lobbies were always deserted.

djchameleon 08-31-2011 03:22 PM

FreePlay always has people around and don't use the lobbies, use instant play. That it was everyone else uses.

The lobbies is more for if you invite friends from your list and know the settings that you want.

14232949 08-31-2011 03:24 PM

I see. I'll give that a try tomorrow then.
I've heard great things, and I just want to blow some people up!

You still continue to defend GTA IV, yet I've played the multiplayer, 100%ed IV, 100% Lost and Damned, and 100% BoGT and still think San Andreas is miles above all that.

djchameleon 08-31-2011 07:46 PM

defend? I'm just stating that I prefer it over your favorite.

I'm in NY and I like driving through NY and seeing the details of places that I have driven by or seen irl as well.
