I think Steven Tyler is the best performer/frontman out of the four mentioned. Do you really consider Robert Plant as the best Soldier?
All four are all time greats and Steven Tyler a favourite of mine but Robert Plant I`d say the actual best performer, this opinion is based obviously on old footage of the bands from the 1970s and their heyday. The only two other performers that I`d say were even better than Robert Plant are Jim Morrison and Roger Daltrey.

Joey Ramone recorded his solo album when was 47....

Johnny was the same age when they made the last Ramones record.

I voted for the second option, but unfortunately it's a rare case that an artist retains their creativity after several decades on the business.

I'd listen to anyone, regardless of age, only if they rolled out high quality stuff. Unfortunately, some rockers figure out they can appeal to nostalgic audiences no matter what crap they roll out.

Killing Joke are in their 50's now and their latest release blows the arse of many bands who profess to be intense and the latest Wire album ties knots around many new 'alternative' bands around today.

I think if artists are trading upon past glories then you are right in saying that they should call it a day when they are just churning out album after album that are no different to what they were making 30, 20 even 10 years ago but then I could contradict myself and say that BB King hasn't really changed in 30 years yet he still makes good music.
