Another one - "Modern Woman," by Billy Joel. "Though the song was quite successful, Joel has since said in interviews he does not care for it." Amen. I've never heard it on the air, either. I dislike most of the hits from An Innocent Man, but they have decent lyrics, whereas "Modern Woman" just stinks.

^ Yes and yes again. Not to mention Common fucking People by Pulp as well. Talking of Blur, I'm also getting to that point with the title track off Parklife as well.

Also;

Elvis Costello - She (boooooorrrrrring)
David Bowie - Space Oddity (sounds so much better in its stripped-down, acoustic form)

The Cure Friday I'm in love. It's **** so is that opening song in the Wish album Open. It's about being drunk at a party or s/t. FFS like we wanna know that Robert! Just go and write another Sinking or Just like heaven.

I love the Smiths, I really do, as evidenced by my tattoos and my avatar, but really I cannot stand these songs and I think they are terrible.

TBWTTIHS is a bit ave. A good song though but one dimensional CG however is sublime. I'm amazed a smiths fan doesn't like it. My brother hates SGABTO which I think is sublime too. Funny how people like and don't like songs.

 I hate that one, too, but I didn't include it because that marked the point I stopped I following the band's new releases.

Zer0 09-12-2011 04:10 PM

'Friday I'm In Love' is certainly far from being one of their best songs but I certainly don't hate it either. It sounds great when I'm really in the mood for it and sometimes makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. But still it sounds inferior to their other hit singles such as 'Just Like Heaven' and 'Inbetween Days'.

Zer0 09-13-2011 07:12 AM

I actually like 'Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others'. It's certainly not the best song on The Queen Is Dead but it has some very witty lyrics.

"From the ice-age to the dole-age
There is but one concern
I have just discovered

Some girls are bigger than others"

It's kind of a fun song.

The Boy with The Thorn is so corny and boring, I hate the melody and the lyrics and the way he sings it. I just can't with that song. But then again most people don't like Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before or Death of A Disco Dancer but I think both are pretty flawless. The opening bass of DoaD is perfect.

Straight To Hell is by far my favorite song from that album. My favorite Clash song period. But the others you listed are great, and definitely some of the better songs on that fairly underwhelming album.

FRED HALE SR. 09-14-2011 04:27 PM

Enjoy the silence by Depeche Mode. That song seemed to regain them popularity at a point when it was waining a bit. I never liked it. I think Black Celebration was their best by far. But not tonight, somebody and and sometimes I can really appreciate from them.

I don't see the problem.
The Wish album is a steaming turd of a record anyway. All they're doing is stating their intent on the first song to save you from wasting around 40/45 minutes of your life having to listen to the rest of the album.

I think there are better songs on the album - I agree it overall sucks, though.
I think "Friday" was placed somewhere in the middle of the album and there were some better ones on there somewhere. Goddamn, it's weird that The Cure lost it almost 20 years ago.

adambentley 09-18-2011 05:26 PM

Kings Of Leon's - Use Somebody.

Love tha band, but this song jsut gets under my skin so bad. And its so overated, Sex on fire is overated.. but i actually like that song!! haa

Weetzie 09-18-2011 07:58 PM

You Never Give Me Your Money- The Beatles. I don't know why, I just can't stand that song. Eck.

Oh wait. Was that song even a hit? Probably not..

I did enjoy Sex On Fire, but hated Use Somebody. I never bothered to listen to anything else they did. Use Somebody was terrible.

Wish is certainly not a steaming turd of a record. While it may be far off their best it has some great moments such as 'Apart' and 'A Letter To Elise'. I certainly wouldn't go as far as to completely write it off. I actually think a few great songs were left off that album though, 'Halo' and 'This Twilight Garden' were better than most of the songs on the album.

Really? I love it! As a song it doesn't make sense but I know all the words to it. That shows how many times I've listened to the Jagged Little Pill.

Howard the Duck 09-20-2011 01:05 AM

i fucking hate Ironic

sopsych 09-20-2011 09:37 PM

Still going? I thought the thread idea was good :)

I have another one - Starship, "Tomorrow Doesn't Matter Tonight." So dated but not nearly as catchy as "We Built This City." Although there's a pretty brunette in the video and also, as I read a claim tonight, Chynna Phillips.

Howard the Duck 09-22-2011 04:39 AM

Time of Your Life by Green Day is pretty bad

and i mildly like them

Yes, agreed. "21 Guns" has a similar stink to it, but at least it has decent lyrics. Billy Jo Armstrong doesn't seem to sing about love with any passion. It's like he is lecturing.

Necromancer 09-22-2011 07:34 PM

I don't care if I never hear "Pretty Woman" by Van Halen again. Its an awful song in the first place, let alone being over-played as well.

zakkman 09-24-2011 02:28 AM

The entire American Idiot album by Green Day,

AgeOfOddz 09-24-2011 11:27 AM

Atlas by Battles. The vocal effect annoys me.

Raust 09-24-2011 04:19 PM

I wanna hear some ambience of birds chirping in the background accompanied by a waterfall followed by a 17 minute prog epic. Not a song with 4 chords with a 30 second guitar solo.

I really liked Genesis' older stuff and in my humble opinion phil should've stayed behind the drum kit. His music just doesn't do it for me. Probably one of my least favorite Genesis tracks.

harryman24 09-27-2011 05:13 AM

Now that you comment Phil Writer, he was questionable to be on my table for "I Cannot Conceive It's Sincere." Horn-based with repetitive, silly lyrics. It charted okay, but rightfully has been forgotten. Also, Van Halen's "Hot for Educator," because it has silent lyrics and I don't suchlike the important riff and stop-and-go pacing. Symmetrical the guitar solo doesn't run me for many ground.

Howard the Duck 09-27-2011 05:55 AM

I don't like I Can't Dance either, but as far as I'm concerned that one track is the only turkey that the Phil Collins lead Genesis produced.
I could have done the whole American Psycho shtick, but I opted not to.

I mean, Invisible Touch had both Land Of Confusion and In Too Deep, and they're in my opinion two of the finest Genesis songs of all time.

ILIKEFIREPLACES 09-29-2011 10:33 PM

Yellow Submarine By The Beatles.

Everytime I hear that song I cringe. Screw You Ringo Starr.

Howard the Duck 09-29-2011 11:13 PM

^^huh? Yellow Submarine is a Lennon-McCartney song, Ringo only sang it

All Together Now is much worse, at any rate, if you're talking Beatles' children's songs
