Didn't this guys die like, 3 decades ago? Why should I care? We all know he's dead, why even bother making a RIP thread?

It's his death-iverserie, I think.

Surely its irrelevant to say that because a drummer was playing before another one that he is better. Agreed, there are many amazing Jazz drummers but Bonham's a drummer I've loved for years and to be honest I'm probably a bit biased because he's Led Zeppelin's drummer- the greatest rock band of all time.

Honestly, why does it have to be 'the greatest of all time' open your mind, man. Bonham was a good drummer that deserved reverence at time of his death, but his skills are well over-exaggerated.

This thread however, is silly. It's revering an overrated rock drummer 30 years after his death when thousands of equally amazing drummers still living are doing amazing things. People need to give these guys the time of day.

You're right in a way but I wouldn't say Bonham was overrated by any means. And revering a drummer that died 30 years ago doesn't mean that living drummers don't get their due credit and they're not amazing as well. It's good to remember a truly awesome drummer and his achievements.

oh overrated, how you are no more than another way of saying "I do not personally like him".

I do like him, and I do like Led Zeppelin. The point people miss out when I say things like this, is that Bonham might have been a good drummer, and might have even been a great drummer. Yet, it's not enough to justify naming him the 'unconditional best drummer of all time' as 'rock mythology' would like you to believe.

I try not think of things in terms of the best. Best for that paticular group, but not best over all. Like Nirvana I could probably say Dave Grohl was the best drummer. But I am not going to compare him to somebody like Dave Lombardo or Phil Collins even. Best to me just reflects how they did in their own rights and in relation to what they had to work for.

Could spend hours saying who is the best drummer, best guitarist or best whatever... but not come up with anything.

Sometimes "overrated" is a valid term, but 9 out of 10 times I find it is just used by people to say they do not like something. Just a way of saying, "I do not get it"..

That's the problem, though. Nobody is saying he's the 'best drummer for Led Zeppelin', the media construes him as 'the best drummer of all time'. In that sense, any drummer that universally acknowledged as the best of all time would inevitably be overrated.

Seeing his death celebrated 30 years post mortem is annoying. I mean, I like say Bela Bartok, but it'd be silly for me to go "RIP Bela Bartok".

Yeah, album sales drive that opinion that has been treated as fact.

If people would just replace "the best" with "my favorite", we would all be better off.
