To me, music is all about melody. Hip hop lacks melody.
I also don't like the style of "singing" and I don't give a **** about lyrics unless they're outrageously bad. So what is there left for me to like about hip-hop?
Do you like Rage Against the Machine?

Some background to help with the conversion efforts: I do like Jill Scott a bit, though she's not someone I go out of my way to listen to. And I like jazz a lot, including acid jazz, which at times veers pretty close to R&B. I also like hip hop, though I tend not to like it when it's mixed with R&B.

So anyone care to give it a shot?
I like Anthony Hamilton well enough. Here's two from 2003.

Nah, not really. Don't dislike them, but don't really like them either.

All dance music? Because that covers a lot of territory.

If you can't get into this dance, well that's not safe.

Let me ask you this, can you see that one would be perceived as "better" than the other by Hip-Hop fans who have apparently better taste? (however pretentious it is to say)

I understand you not appreciating/liking fundamental elements of Rap music, but can you tell the difference between what is accepted as "Good" by people like myself and what people want on the radio. If you can tell the difference, that is good enough for me.

I thought I could. But this year people were absolutely Lyrical about some hip hop album and I just thought it was as ****ty as all the other hip-hop. What was his name again? Almost everyone here seemed to like it, even people who usually aren't into hip-hop that much.

I'll listen to your links later to see what I'll think, but I already know I'll prefer the roots.
I even used one of their samples in a video .

Yes, I cut out what everyone who likes hip-hop would call 'the good bit', but you get the idea.
The tapedecks on the video are mine, a friend made the video after he repaired those machines for me.

I don't care about your taste in hip-hop. You've made it clear that you don't get it and don't like it and that's perfectly acceptable. Please shut up about it now because I care even less about your tapedecks.
