cool bands and stuff!

I'm really digging a girl called Kirsten amy at the mo, not usually my kinda thing I'm usually more fond of the heavier stuff, but she has a few bangers up that caught my ear, very dynamic

and miRthkon... haha, amazing, kinda reminds me of really old Incubus!

Listen to Mental Drug by Illustrated on Youtube. EXTREMELY UNDERRATED!

^ Thanks for the additional songs!

I looked up Kirsten Amy and am very impressed:

Kirsten Amy - "Unbelievable" (only 25 views!)
Lovely Indian influences and she also has a *lovely* voice. Excellent. This song should have 2,500,000 views.

Tonight I also listened to Brandon Blair's song "Turn Away" (only 42 views on YouTube!) and liked it for its catchy bass, guitar, bells, and Brandon's voice, which reminds me a little of the MGMT guys. His singing also reminds me of Devo, whom I enjoy.

The song would appeal to me more if it had real drums, but I still liked it for its quirky/reggae feel and the energy of the chorus:

Brandon Blair - Turn Away - YouTube

I also liked the shoegazey (?) music of the band in which he plays bass, trumpet, and violin, with my favorite two songs being the following:

Port Manteau - "Sailboat" (162 views)

Port Manteau - "All Too Familiar" (499 views)

Taxi Taxi - Birdful eyes, Beautiful song

Afterlives - Ever the optimist, kind of rough around the edges but I think that adds to the song

(Slow reply) The song by The Wandering Tree was pleasant! I only wish there were a better recording of it on YouTube since the two live recordings I heard had low sound quality.

Yesterday I was listening to my favorite non-famous song that I posted in this thread two years ago..."Ink" by The Thrill Collective.

This song is still just so damn catchy to me, a conclusion I reach after listening to it around 40 times on repeat while at work:

The Thrill Collective - "Ink"
Pop song that gets an A++ from me
Still only 319 views since they posted it on 8/2012.

^ While listening, I wondered how The Thrill Collective is doing now. So I thought I'd find out by looking through their Youtube channel.

I discovered to my excitement that they've recorded a new arrangement or remix of "Ink," which they call "Wasting Time On You."

I prefer their original version, but "Wasting Time on You" is still a good song and better in some ways than the original:

The Thrill Collective - "Wasting Time On You"
(New version of "Ink" with a heavier, slicker, more complex sound. I give it an A)
Published 1/2013 with only 245 views.
Guitar soloist displays greater skill now.

Next, I saw they've made a new song that I feel is their second best song of the approximately twelve that they have recorded to date:

The Thrill Collective - "These Days"
(A solid song with a darker sound. I give it a B+)
Published 7/2013 and only 45 views.

The Thrill Collective is a solid, talented band and I hope they'll keep cranking out the tunes.

Cornered Men in Japan

Cornered Men are a group of foreigners in Japan that are starting to write their own stuff in amongst the covers. You can check out some originals on their youtube channel.

Witching Hour UK - trad goth band

If you like traditional goth rock, here's a band to consider: Witching Hour UK.

I know little about trad goth, but I am thinking that this London band's music is very representative of that subgenre which, says Wikipedia, arose out of punk "but combines dark, often keyboard-heavy music with introspective, dark and mostly romantic lyrics."

Witching Hour UK started in 1991 but are still active as a two-piece band and according to their website "are still very much trad-goth and are very proud of their heritage."

Witching Hour UK - "Afterlife"

Witching Hour UK - "Witchcraft"

Witching Hour UK - "Resurrection"

I recently happened upon the band Gloom Balloon, a name that amuses me, and I found that I really enjoy quite a few of their songs because they are pretty, thoughtful, and a little funny/quirky. My favorites are these:

Gloom Balloon - "Fix The Sunshine"

Gloom Balloon - "The Prettiest Song"
