I only wish you had emphasized your credentials more. Perhaps we could have avoided the tomfoolery in this thread had we realized you were the clearly superior, most knowledgeable Beatles fan on these boards.

Please, forgive us!

one more thing before I go:- how do you propose to "market" Zappa? his music just isn't very appealing to Joe Bloggs/the man in the street

lessay, we use bits of Return of the Son Of Monster Magnet in a car commercial? the car company would go bankrupt

lessay we pipe "Hot Rats" in a mall? the mall will close down

lessay we have a Zappa marathon on Top 40 radio, the station will have no advertisement revenue after that

I really enjoyed that, Frank Zappa and marketing!

Ever since I`ve been a member of this forum, a troll always seems to come along every now and again, arguing that the Beatles were the be all and end all of music, whilst staking their huge musical knowledge on the subject. Admittedly though, this is the first person I`ve come across, who on the one hand claims the Beatles are best band ever, whilst on the other hand, claiming that they wrote some of the worst lyrics known to man.......the irony of it all.

According to Last.Fm I have 4,672 plays of The Beatles, this only accounts for about 5% of my Beatles listening over the past 47 years do you think you can beat that?

John Lennong and Paul McCartney would occasionally write a good song but if you looked at their albums (Beatles era) most of their songs were average.

The Beatles were not a good band pre-Rubber Soul yet that is when they gained their fame=marketing. If the Beatles started their career with Rubber Soul instead of Please Please Me! we would have forums where people would be talking about how underrated the Beatles were and how the greatest band of all time the Rolling Stones couldn't hold their jockstrap.
Do you just hate pop music or something? Just because they adhered to a relatively simplistic verse/hook/chorus structure they were 'garbage'? I'm sorry, but if you can label a band that wrote songs such as She Loves You, I'll Follow the Sun, Every Little Thing, And I Love Her, I've Just Seen a Face, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Help!, Ticket to Ride and You've Got to Hide Your Love Away as 'not a good band', then I'm intrigued to hear who you do rate as good?

Their early albums are some of the best pop records ever made, they made such an impact for a reason - and it wasn't just 'marketing', they originally caused a big stir through word of mouth after they were featured in some 'new music' feature, then got bigger when I Wanna Hold Your Hand appeared on radio. The marketing frenzy was a reaction to their increasing popularity.

Ignorance on your part? Anything that is marketed enough will sell. History tells us this. There's nothing over the top about that.

I never said this. The Beatles are hardly the best band ever. Pink Floyd and King Crimson are just a a few bands who surpass them. The Beatles are just my favorite.

Beats by Dr. Dre are marketed to teenagers yet I see business men and even old people wear them out in public. Why? Because they are advertised everywhere.

The Beatles were a teenage girl band but they gained popularity with all types of people. You underestimate the power of marketing. If Katy Perry and Justin Beiber can have a large following I know for certain Frank Zappa (if marketed like hell) would have been extremely famous. Maybe I exaggerated when I said he would be as famous as the Beatles but I am sure he would be more famous then he is now.

History actually tells us, that marketing has just got more potent and dominant as time has gone by, so again stop comparing modern day marketing techniques to those that took place in the 1960s, its just not relevant.

Now thats just sad, to listen to the same band 5hrs a day!!! Personally I just think you`re bull****ting here, but just in case you`re not, you mean to tell us that you constantly listen to the Beatles despite the lyrics being total garbage......words just fail me!

BTW, there is a mult-quote button that you can use, instead of putting a whole load of individual posts, it makes what you write slightly less painful to read.

History tells us that marketing=sells. And no I don't listen to the Beatles 5 hours a day. It was a joke. Everything I'm saying makes sense as long as you don't exaggerate it's meaning. Marketing=sells. To deny that shows ignorance. Whether we're talking about marketing from the 60s or from today marketing has always=sells.
