I usually say 'all sorts of shit but you wouldn't had heard of half of it'. Most people just think I'm a metalhead and I can't be bothered to correct them. People are more intrigued when I put on the other 70% of my music collection. Keep 'em guessing.
|
I usually just show them my library of music, then wait for the inevitable, "....so do you listen to anything recorded after 1975?"
|
I never waste time with that question anymore. I made a list of bands at a forum once and they were like "Who?".
So now I just say 90's to 01's punk, metal, alt rock, and hard style. Or I give them the phones on my Sansa but they usually hold them away from their ears cause I keep the volume maxed out, lol! |
"Mostly electronic music and metal, but my favorite artist is Tom Waits."
|
I dread that question. I usually say, "Oh, jazz, metal, rap, folk, psychedelic, punk... or a combination of those. Or something different. I dunno. Everything."
People usually get bored at jazz, and if not, assume "everything" means "everything popular in each genre." Rarely do I ever get to have a discussion on good music, and it's usually only when I notice a metalhead with a band shirt on. |
I usually say "mostly 80's pop-rock." I don't get asked the question much, and I'm hesitant to say much. Both because I'm an aloof person.
|
I listen to everything, though obviously I will have my preferences, as does anyone, which get more airplay (classical, and pop slanted music).
|
One comment I made to an annoying girl who liked to talk at me was that "My favourite bands consist of the band members banging their heads against a wall while they kick their instruments and yell. Pretty much anything along those lines I like." The annoying bitch quit her at-me talk.

Here is what I listen to, even though you stated you don't want to know I just want to post it: Soundgarden Dinosaur Jr. Pixies Juliana Hatfield Nirvana Helmet Rollins Band Audioslave Danzig Descendents Fiona Apple Flyleaf Seether Morrissey |
I really hate this question. Generally, thankfully, at least one of my friends is present when I get asked this, and they start to ramble about how I have 'a million' (232,000, thank you very much) mp3s on my computer and blah blah blah. It get's the point across and I don't have to say a word.
In the rare situation that I'm not with a friend when this question is asked, I usually just tell them that that's a loaded goddamn question, and that I hope they have half an hour to listen to me ramble about bull**** they don't care about. |
