You listened to the wrong album, that one is his experimental album and it stands completely apart from his others. While that one is electro pop pretty much all of his other stuff is very akin to Elliott Smith(though nowhere near as good in my opinion).

Big mistake starting with The Age Of Adz, that's a showing of Sufjan's experimental side he's been toying with lately.

If you want just guitar and vocals...definitely listen to Seven Swans or Michigan. Illinoise! Is fantastic too, but for just simple guitar and vocals, you have to listen to those two.

Thank you for introducing me to Elliott Smith.

Personally I love the Age of Adz, but I wouldn't recommend it first to anyone either.

Age of Adz is great in my book.

It's a good album on it's own, but with the expectations I had upon listen, it was disappointing. Now that I know it isn't meant for a starter album, I can probably give it another listen and enjoy it.

Hey, out of curiosity, what movie is your avatar from? Some sort of mockumentary I presume?

Urban posted a link to a site that had some great movie posters done as if they were in the 40's/50's/70's etc. That was my favourite.
