Red face War of the Worlds 02

We went to see this last night. To be honest I was disappointed. I expected more stage action, but most of the action was on the screen behind the stage. The venue is huge and some of the atmosphere was lost because of this. The seats at the 02 are extremely uncomfortable and cramped, you become well acquainted with the people sitting next to you.

The music remains quality and the way it was played was excellent.

Well, due to the nature of the story, I would imagine little could take place onstage: perhaps the meeting of the artilleryman and the journalist, maybe the journalist arriving at Carrie's home? But most of it is big, cinematic action and you couldn't very well expect Fighting Machines to be stalking across the stage in real-time, or the "Thunderchild" going down in a hiss of steam, could you? I'd think it's quite limited as to what could be achieved onstage (I have the DVD but have yet to watch it and have never seen it live) but then, as you say, the music is what it's all about.

Fair comments, dunno what I was expecting.
