Michael Jackson for the length of discography. Prince is a genius unto himself though.

Prince has about 30 odd albums? Or do you mean timespan?

EDIT - Even timespan doesn't work, MJ released his first solo album in 1971 and his last in 2001 - 30 years. You can add another two years if you're counting Jackson 5 albums.

Prince released his first album in 1978 and his most recent in 2014 - 38 years.

Good point

Prince released way more albums than Michael but imo Michael has more classics.

Having thoroughly examined MJ's catalogue it's hard not to think what genius many of compositions are that he wrote, composed, arranged and produced (exceptions include "Rock With You", "Off The Wall", "She's Out Of My Life", "Thriller", "Human Nature", "P.Y.T.", "Man In The Mirror", "You Are Not Alone" among others). As a songwriter he was brilliant at evoking pathos to communicate and translate to his audience the feel of every word. His use of different writing styles such as dramatic prose to create tension and suspense in songs such as "Who Is It" and "Billie Jean", narrative/storytelling to unravel tales metaphorical of his own life experiences in songs like "Price Of Fame" and "Heartbreak Hotel", monologues/soliloquies to reveal inner turmoil and contradictions in songs such "Dangerous" and "Will You Be There", and stream-of-consciousness to evoke a sense of urgency and desperation in songs like "Jam" and "Tabloid Junkie". He also covered many themes in his lyrics from the femme fatale is tales such "Dirty Diana" to more serious socially-conscious anthems from the Cold War-era inspired " Be Not Always", ecological destruction in "Earth Song" to anti-war sentiments in "We've Had Enough". He also employed other nifty tricks to enhanced the listening experience or advantage or coda the the song's narrative like spoken raps, rapping, beatboxing (including as part of arrangements) and scat singing. Just listen to the first 20 songs and realise how vast the genres, styles, themes and overall soundscapes and production are:

if we are talking musical talent...prince is a million miles ahead of mj...lets have a look at what he brings to the table..
.
prince is a multi instrumentalist...to the highest standard..one of the greatest guitar players in the world(ask eric clapton or steve vai how good he is)...add to that a brilliant bass player and great on the drums and keyboards..

prince has written and produced some of the best songs of the 20th century...in rolling stones 500 greatest songs of all time...prince wrote more of them than anyone else..bar lennon and mccartney...

his live performances are considered some of the greatest ever seen..and he remains a huge concert draw as his 21 nights in london and la recently have proved..

his influence on modern music can be heard everywhere..and he is a true musician's musician with almost everyone who works in music recognising his huge talent.

he was the first artist to release an album via the internet in 1997 (one of the first to see that record companies were finished in the internet age)...after he freed himself from the control of record companies and has remained free from record company control ever since .

he has written 8 us number one singles..had around 25 top tens singles and had more hits than any other artist between 1980 and 1999....add to that 5 number one albums and a dozen top ten entries and around 100 million album sales...mj clearly sold far more than prince but prince is one the most successful artists of all time just on sales alone..

michael jackson was a huge media star with a great voice and some songwriting talent but its also interesting to note that his most successful album was mainly written by other people...he was a talent but in no way does his musical talent compare to prince..

LOL why are you so retarded?....Michael Jackson's songs are listenable by everyone...most of prince's songs dont appeal to the wider audience..its more an acquired taste. Its easy to determine whos greater...You will simply have to ask third world countries about these 2 and i guarantee you..GUARANTEE...that they wont even know who prince is...but they will know who MJ is. Prince is certainly a great entertainer and is immensely popular but hes nothing 0 compared to MJ. So i dont know what nonsense your talking about when your implying prince is this huge global phenomenon and is better and greater than MJ....you have brain dmg im sorry. Its like saying Floydmayweather is the greatest of all time and not Ali...yes hes 49-0 but hes nowhere close to being as great as ali...Thats the same kind of **** ur pulling here with your nonsensical banter about being a multi- instrumentalist and what not...rubbish. Boxing = Ali Golf = Tiger woods and im sorry to disappoint your garbage statement but MUSIC = MJ....your a minority vote in this comparison.
