Severe Forum Moderating Problem?
 

Hi,
I was recently banned for "advertising" apparently, which I don't understand. I was discussing a new artist I recently discovered, and they said I was banned because I was "advertising"...

I have read the rules and see NOTHING anywhere about not discussing pop artists. I have no clue as to why I was banned, because I was not advertising anything whatsoever.

Isn't this a forum to discuss new music? What the hell? Explanation please?

Here's the rules, maybe you'll actually read them this time.

You didn't offer any discussion at all.
You just said 'Hey check out this artist' and gave a link to a facebook page.

According the to rules of the forum that is spam & that will get you banned.
The moderator who banned you was totally justified.

We all know you've only signed up to talk about that artist now. If I were you I'd leave and find some other forum where it is allowed.

I didn't come to the forum to "only talk about one artist." And what is "we all know?...what are you talking about? I just searched online for a music discussion forum to talk about new music! I don't get why this is some huge crime. I'm seriously so confused lol.

A good way for us to know you aren't just a spammer is to make an intro thread. It at least shows you're starting off seriously enough.

You didn't even talk about that artist, you posted a facebook link & left.
That's why you were banned and why you're not being taken seriously now.

The part you're not getting is that posting links is, in itself, not the problem.
ONLY posting links and not actually creating a discussion will likely be taken as spammer activity. We get that sort of behavior from spammers many times daily. So that's what raises red flags.
If we were expected to inquire about the motives of every instance of this that we came across, we'd be inundated with spam.

So the simplest thing is to read the rules, then make your first few posts in such a way that you will not be mistaken as a spammer. When we've seen enough of you, we obviously won't think you're here to post a link and never return.

Woah ok first of all I did not just post a link. I said that there was a new song by a pop artist that I recently discovered and that I has been listening, and asked if others had heard it and if so what they thought. I didn't say much about the artist but come on, I wasn't spamming obviously. And nobody even saw it because it was deleted like 1 minute after...so who wasn't taking me seriously? Nobody even knew about it! Stop going after me like I'm some wounded animal, jeez.

At least Duga told me what would have been better: An intro thread. I didn't know what was allowed because in some places that is considered "spam" as well.

Again... SO SORRY. Lol.

Also I just realized that a post in "what music are you listening to right now" of mine was deleted. Why...?????? I listed the song, and artist name. That's is.

Do you even realize how ignorant you sound? You just described what 99% of all spam threads on this board look like. If you are claiming to be a legit member then browse around and see what actual threads are supposed to look like and adhere to that structure. It wasn't obvious that you weren't spamming. It was obvious that your post resembled every other spam post on this board. It's like walking into a liquor store with a ski mask and getting upset that you got shot because your face was cold. You really don't get that?

Because when we delete spam posts, we tick the checkbox to delete their other posts as well, because they're generally also spam posts. It's more efficient than going hunting for them. This is common practice.

For a less exclusive community. I was just trying to start discussion, and perhaps introduce people to an artist that I like, that maybe they hadn't heard of. Hence posting a link to the music I was referencing. I guess I thought that was a fine way to start out here.

Guess I'm just THAT ignorant. I'll make an introduction thread though I'll probably be banned for doing so (hope not?)
