They both have advantages and disadvantages. Probably overall though I'd say that it's better to buy the CD.

Well, I said this yesterday at the music store.
I only buy a new CD if the album is really really utterly brilliant.
So I usually download when it's only available on CD.
When it's available on vinyl, it's a different story.
I don't feel like the thing a CD dives me (both in sound quality and styling) justifies the price. Also, making a CD is really dirt cheap. A record is a bit cheaper (!) where I live and a lot more work, effort and money is put into it.

So I buy records. Lots of them. 3,5 meters and counting

Yes. If its an indie band and they could use the money, I buy a t-shirt.
Now-defunct bands do not need my money though and the majority of the stuff I listen to was recorded by artists that stopped playing before I was born.

After a few months have passed, I'm perfectly fine with downloading. It's pretty convenient when I don't have money to buy music at the moment.

I would like to physically buy CDs, but the only option to buy full albums is downloading legally due to my mom not letting me order any online (due to her dislike for the format). :/

for the artists, it doesn't matter either way as long as you download legally. They get the same percentage.

for me, i like buying the CD. it's nothing but a nostalgic habit of being able to hold the cd on my hand. makes me feel more connected.

i, however, listen to the songs before purchasing but i don't download illegally. if the band posts the songs on their site or youtube or **** like that, then i'd listen. if i like it, i'll buy it.

i figured that since my workd involves music and artists, the least i can do is give them their living the same way i make a living a out of them.

but buying the cd will make the labels earn more. they still earn with legal downloading, they just earn more with the CD. and based on many of the posts here, many, if not most, of your hate labels.

so there you go.

You can buy the CD and rip the music to your digital library.
or
You can download the album and burn it onto a CD-R.
Same difference.

If forced to pick, I'd buy the CD. That way, I could choose the rip settings (format, bit rate, sample rate, etc) .If you DL, you're stuck with whatever they give you.

I stick with buying the CD's because I enjoy having a physical copy w/ artwork etc.
