A month or so ago on my way to work, the local station was playing a set of tracks from local artists and put on a song from The Posies - a band I've heard of but that I'm not familiar with. The song was "Dream All Day," and all I could think to myself was that this sound sooooo much like a poppier version of a Queens of the Stone Age song. Not really any song in particular, just that the singing style in particular sounded a lot like QOTSA, but also the guitar and drums, and that The Posies must have been a big influence on their sound. Add a harder edge to this song and you've got QOTSA.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

This is slightly off the original topic, but when I first heard Bruno Mars' "Locked Out Of Heaven" on the radio, I thought it was either Sting or a Police song that I hadn't heard before—just the sound and style, for the most part.

Fast forward a few weeks, and there was Bruno Mars performing that song, with an assist from Sting!

The Yardbirds - Still I'm Sad

steals a lot of melody from:

The Tokens - The Lion Sleeps Tonight

Although it's like the most depressing stealing of melody from that song imaginable.

That's funny since "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" itself was largely stolen from "Mbube" by Solomon Linda.
