Until lately, I've only heard about Jonn Lennon solo song. I've heard a few lately that I've dug. This one's alright, never heard him drop the F-bomb.

R.E.M. - Welcome to the Occupation

I've always been a fan of REM and this song.

William Shatner - I Can't Get Behind That

This was funny, I thought, Shatner over blast beats lol. Is that Henry Rollins too? I agreed with a lot of what they were saying.

Wingnut Dishwashers Union - **** Every Cop (Who Ever Did His Job(

Pat the bunny is my hero, and this is one of may favorite songs from him, well it's tied with every other song he's written[/b]

The Knife - Stay out Here

I enjoyed this pretty alright. I really liked the intro, somewhat minimalistic. I didn't pick up most of the lyrics, so I couldn't connect it to the theme unfortunately.

Blood Axis - The Hangman and The Papist

I love Blood Axis, and it was pretty epic when this came on. I like BA's vocals.

Frank Zappa - Who Are the Brain Police

Another songg/artist that I enjoy, ao I have previously acquired pleasure.

Dead Prez (ft. Divine) - Malcom, Garvey, & Huey

There's a few rap artists I like, while I don't listen to Dead Prez, I always enjoy the lyrical output.

Deltron 3030 - 3030

Can't say I enjoyed the hell out of it, but I didn't skip it, thought it was a good rap song, but like I said, not to huge on rap.

Santogold - Shuv It (feat. Three 6 Mafia & Project Pat)

Hate to say I didn't like it at all =/

Wax Audio Sad But Superstitous

I never expect these mashups to flow as good as they do. If I never heard either of these songs, I'd almost think this is just the song lol. Had an enjoyable listen.

Cthonic - Bloody Gaia Fulfilled

Finish with some metal \m/. I don't listen to Cthonic, but this was decent. I don't really like much symphonic metal at all tbh. I did enjoy some riffs here, but that 'breakdown' and the following part were rather awesome. But as with the Knife song, don't know the lyrics.

It was an okay mix this week. Not as the good as the first one tbh. I was expecting a lot more politics in these lyrics.

Okay, because of life and business, I only just now got around to listening to Part 2 of the first mixtape. I've waited a long time to do this, so I'm gonna go ahead and review it, even though the new one just came out. I'll DL this next one here in a bit, hopefully will review that one faster than this one. Anyway, here we go.

11. wolverinewolfweiselpigeon: Nouvelle Vague - No One Knows

I enjoyed this, it was a fun cover on a classic QOTSA song. Can't say I loved it, but it was nice.

12. rostasi: Stara Rzeka - Przebudzenie Boga Wschodu

This was definitely my favorite song on the whole mix. I loved every second of it- from the opening, bouncy, summery electronica to the ear-splitting, furious black metal madness that ended it. If you have any album links, I'll take 'em.

13. Powerstars: Killers - Jenny Was a Friend of Mine

I've never been a Killers fan, but it was a good enough song. If it was by itself I honestly probably wouldn't listen to it, but coming out from the end of the last song, it worked really well... somehow.

14. duga: Alpine Decline - Sleeping Gas

Ehh. Sorry Duga, I usually like what you post a lot, but I could have lived without this one. Not that it wasn't good. It was. It just didn't really hold my attention... it was the kind of reverb-laden indie rock that just kind of drones in the background that I turn on to mindlessly surf the internet to. It doesn't distract me so I can safely do other things.

15. Frownland: Sonny Sharrock - Promises Kept

Well Frowny, you actually sent this to me way back when (as you well know), and I love it today as much as I did then. To me, it basically sounds like Carlos Santana making coolass free jazz... which may be an odd comparison, but the dude's guitar playing is just SO MUCH like Santana's- tone, style, everything. This isn't a bad thing.

16. The Batlord: Grand Belial's Key - Vultures of Misfortune

Batty, your taste in "gloriously ****ty" metal impeccable. I can't say I always love what you do, but I can appreciate your never-ending devotion to the genre. This song didn't satisfy my intellectual need for good music, but then again, it really wasn't supposed to, was it? It got my head banging, therefore it did its job. However, don't bother sending me any album links... as much as the one song was good on its own, I probably won't be listening to much more from this artist.

17. Astronomer: Twelve Foot Ninja - Ain't That A Bitch

Never been a fan of Twelve Foot Ninja, oddly. They have a lot of qualities that would make it SEEM like I would enjoy them... but every time I've listened to them, I've lost interest almost instantly. Sorry. However, I did like the little breakdown they had going near the middle of the song, uninspired as it was.

18. Vanilla: Flume - Insane

This was not what I expected from Flume at all. I've heard some of Flume's work, and as far as I'm aware, none of it sounded like this- I don't know if I'm just going crazy or what, but I thought Flume was some sort of IDM artist? Ah well. Anywho, this song was okay. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it, but it was alright.

19. bob.: Corrections House - Hoax the System

Bobby my boy, your taste in music never ceases to amaze me. I could have guessed that the crushing industrial song was yours. I liked it. Not much more to say about it than that, it was just... good.

20. Arya Stark: Father John Misty - Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings

Fun song. Nice use of recording effects to make it sound very wide-open and spacey. Nice crunchy guitar work. The ending with the ambient noises, screams, and creepy voices was an interesting touch, and led well to the next song (unintentionally, obviously).

21. Sequoioideae: Coffins - Decapitated Crawl

Hahahahaha! This song was hilariously heavy. So heavy that I almost think that it was SUPPOSED to be a joke, because seriously... this song. I've listened to the band before though, I know this is no joke. Seriously, I actually really like the band's music, and there's moments when the vocals aren't too shabby, but unfortunately, the vocalist's decision to use all cookie monster vocals is a huge detriment to my enjoyment factor. If he would just go for some more traditional death growls, or black metal screeches, or... literally anything besides what he's doing I would love it. As it is, I'll probably be deleting it. Still, keep trying! You obviously like heavy, and I like heavy!

22. Plankton: Rush - Time Stand Still

I appreciate Rush. I do not like Rush. Their musicianship is admirable, their skill sometimes extraordinary, and their influence on musicians of all stripes (especially drummers) is pretty great. But seriously, I ****ing hate Rush. I could just barely sit through this song, mostly because I was determined to listen to the whole mixtape all the way through. Sorry Plank.

23. Burning Down: Let's Active - Horizon

I didn't think about it when I listened to it, but in hindsight, it's pretty funny to end the tape on an extremely 80's sounding song. Makes the mix seem like some old, cheesy 80's movie, and these are the ending credits. It was a fitting way to end the mix, and I didn't turn it off early, but I wasn't really a fan, either.

All in all, though I quite obviously wasn't crazy about a lot of this mix, it was actually a fairly good listen. Really eclectic mix, lots of curve balls I wasn't expecting. I preferred the first mix, but you know, that's the nature of the mixtape. Sometimes you'll love it, and sometimes you won't.

I haven't listened to the newest mix, of course, but here's the song I was going to choose for it if I hadn't been dealing with real life rather than everything on here. I look forward to listening to this!

Just a quick explanation (even if you could understand the growling, the lyrics are in Mandarin). This band is from Taiwan and their music frequently protests the Taiwanese government and the suppression of their heritage for a more "Chinese friendly" history. Hence the selection.

And I'm glad you like it...the inclusion of the erhu really adds and lot to the music (and makes the breakdown you liked really awesome). Its use became less frequent in later albums since they had a dedicated erhu player that got kicked out, but they are still a great band.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed with how it turned out in the mixtape. As I mentioned, this song is one of those that you need to hear in the context of the album to really click with it. If you enjoyed any of it (or that style of music in general), I still recommend checking out the whole album.

11. wolverinewolfweiselpigeon: Nouvelle Vague - No One Knows

Since you liked "Crom Cruach" so much Steph I'm glad I can return the compliment! This is gorgeous! I love the soft, sultry vocals which remind me of a much more laidback Debbie Harry, the soft percussion and the tinkling piano: just superb. Really great start, and great selection!

12. rostasi: Stara Rzeka - Przebudzenie Boga Wschodu

I'm going to assume this is maybe Polish? Another lovely song, love the guitar and then the way is it a sea sound comes up, so much so that I checked to see was it raining outside! Then the mandolin/bouzouki/whatever. Superb. Like the way it then picks up tempo. Have to admit I was pushed for time, with the second mix still to go, so twelve minutes was a little too long for me. I had to cut it short. But I will be returning to it. Liked it very much indeed.

13. Powerstars: Killers - Jenny Was a Friend of Mine

I know this one. I like this album but "Jenny" is not a favourite from it for me. Good song, but I would have chosen maybe something else. This is part of the murder suite, yes?

14. duga: Alpine Decline - Sleeping Gas

I like the sort of faraway vocal on this and the melody is insistently, well, nice. Very atmospheric and does sort of give me the idea of rising out of a deep sleep.

15. Frownland: Sonny Sharrock - Promises Kept

Sorry man. By the first minute I was bored. By the second I started to hate it. By the third I did hate it. After that I moved on. This is jazz, isn't it? That explains it, for me. Again sorry, but this is the first song I've not only actively disliked on these mixes but actually hated. Guess you can't please everyone. Next!

16. The Batlord: Grand Belial's Key - Vultures of Misfortune

Batty, have you lost your mind? Where's the heavy screaming guitar, the tear-your-heart-out-and-eat-it-in-front-of-you vocals ... oh. There they are! Right. Thought we were going to have to get you to the hospital for an injection of metal into your blood. Okay now we're back to our original program. Yeah, you know what I'm gonna say. Death vocals = bye bye from Trollheart. Not enduring nearly eight minutes of that! Bitch. I know.

17. Astronomer: Twelve Foot Ninja - Ain't That A Bitch

Ah yes, the rather large Japanese assassin. Have heard about these guys but not heard anything up to now. This is ... what's the word? Oh yeah. Terrific. Really like this. Guy has a great vocal style. Love the Supertramp-style piano. In fact, I love everything about this. Better put this on my list. Wow! The change to hard punchy guitar and the angrier vocal just made it even better, then those Beach Boys harmonies allied to a Divine Comedy piano (I know I said Supertramp but I realise now it has more in common with Hannon than Davies). Again, love love love this!

18. Vanilla: Flume - Insane

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. The reggae beat puts me off a little, the fact that it's live distracts me. I like the vocal, but I can honestly say that at the moment I neither love nor hate this song. To quote Futurama: I have no strong opinion one way or the other.

19. bob.: Corrections House - Hoax the System

Thsi was good, had a very epic and stirring feel to it. Again, sort of distant, unfocussed vocals which complemented the song well.

20. Arya Stark: Father John Misty - Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings

Sounds to me like a sort of slower CCR. Like it but don't love it.

21. Sequoioideae: Coffins - Decapitated Crawl

Sorry, death vocals send me fetching my coat, bolting back my pint and hailing a cab. Call it over-judgemental but I can't stand them. Ten seconds or so of this and I was on to Plankton's selection.

22. Plankton: Rush - Time Stand Still

A different Rush track. Quite laidback, nothing like the "Hemispheres" or "2112" era I've been used to, or even "Power windows". What album is that from? I don't think I'd recognise it as Rush on my own.

23. Burning Down: Let's Active - Horizon

I really like this track, not sure why everyone's putting it down. Very pleasant, sort of a little proggy vibe going on with it, and a nice way to close the selection.

I'll do the second mix tomorrow. Or Saturday. Depends.
